My skin around my eyes is very itchy, does anyone know why?

ok so it's not exactley my eyes just the the skin around my eyes, like my eye lids and the lids below your eye. They are dry and very itchy! Also kind of swollen sometimes. And I have been rubbing them like crazy so now I have lines/wrinkles which I think was caused by the rubbing. Someone told me maybe allergys. So I took allergy medicine, and that hasn't worked yet. I've tryed lotion and eye creme. Does anyone know what could be causing this and how to make it stop itching and to get rid of the lines? Please help!! Thanks sooooooo much!!!

This may be signs of Pink Eye or even an Eye Infection. If you have not gone to the doctor already, I would schedule an appointment. If there is a problem , you want to get it looked at before you cause any permanent damage.

In the meantime, I would try over the counter Claritin D. It tends to work the best for my allergies so I would give it a shot.
Reply:you might have a problem beneth the surface. if you wear makeup that may be the problem. stop using any cremes and thoughroly wash that area. hold off on any creme or makeup for awhile. if that doesn't work see a doctor you may have an infection.
Reply:well it maybe a rash or u might have something kind of like a sunburn on ur eye my friend had that once when she was at the pool the whole day so try wearing sunglasses when you go outside and also see a doctor. I hope that helps..hope you get better!!
Reply:could be allergies, or your makeup, if it is the make up use any product such as clinque that carries non fragrance in their products and use an eye cream as nuetrogena has a good over the counter one for sensitive skin. If you do have black circles under your eyes and just started noticing the itching that is surely a sign of allergies.

I have it too!!!! I have been told it maybe linked to my eczema or hayfever. After searching on the web ( i don't want to use a steroid so have binned the cream the doctor gave me) i have found a cream that seems to be very popular and works, it was also recommended in The Times newspaper and several posh magazines which is where i found out about it. Anyway its called Cardiospermum Dry Skin Eye Gel and it's available from skinshop.co.uk or call 08718719975 ( England ) It's very natural and contains amongst other things soothing aloe vera. Don't waste your money on anything else, they don't work and only irritate the problem even more , i've tried everything , organic and non. Enjoy getting your eyes back :)

What's the best cure for itchy dry "winter skin"?

I get it bad every winter, and I hate it! I've found a few decent lotions that provide a quick fix for most of the dryness, but it only gets to the surface, so even after I apply it, I still feel very itchy!

What's the best cure for itchy dry "winter skin"?
anything with urea (found in the diabetiv section of the drug store or behind he pharmacy counter - no perscription) is super hydrating, but a little pricey - about $10 a tube...something i have found helpful is Olay Quench - unscented for sensitive skin - it's not as expensive and as long as you apply it once a day it works wonders and i have very dry skin (the skin on my hands used to be so dry that it cracked!) - hope it heps...
Reply:After I shower but before I dry off, I put on baby oil. Then dry off. It will really moisturize your skin, protect it from the weather, and keep it really soft.

I have extremely sensitive skin and this has worked for me for years.
Reply:Original Curel lotion is the best. When you come out of the shower, towel dry yourself and rub it in while you are still damp. It will make your skin really soft.
Reply:I use Olay Moisturinse In Shower Body Lotion. I love it. I get really itchy skin in the winter, and this takes care of it. Our local Wal-Mart has it on the same aisle as the soap.
Reply:Make sure that you lotion does not have any perfume or scent to it because in this end, it will just end up drying your skin. I also have very dry skin in the winter and have found that if I use baby oil and then lotion (I use lubriderm) right after I shower, I don't have that much of a problem. It helps keep the moisture in. Also, use soap for sensitive skin (also unscented) and don't shave your legs, underarms, or face without using a moisturizing shaving cream. Put a humidifier in your bedroom at night to help keep the room air from getting too dry. In the winter, the heat takes the humidity out of the air and that is why your dry skin worsens.
Reply:I have very sensitive, dry skin and the OLAY products work wonders for me. I use the body wash, in shower lotion and the quench body lotion and I have seen an improvement in my skin overnight. I also use it on my 3 yr old who also has dry skin and it works well for both of us without irritation.

I heard that after shaving in the hairy basement ur skin can get iritated and itchy? 10 POINTS for best answer

i refuse to wax that area, and i trim but i feel like my long term boyfriend still remains hesitant when exploring that area, because of it.

i want to try shaving, but i've heard that after shaving your skin can become iritated and itchy. Is this always the case?

Will a certain method or shaving cream prevent this from happening?

I heard that after shaving in the hairy basement ur skin can get iritated and itchy? 10 POINTS for best answer
Well a lot of it depends on your skin. I have really sensitive skin and when I first started shaving (about 8 years ago) for the first few months I had some razor burn, ingrown hairs, and itching- as that skin was not used to being shaved. With time though, it "toughened up". I still shave daily with no problems. My best suggestion if you try it is to make sure you have a high quality SHARP razor, shaving cream (I like gel best), and warm water. It works best if the hair is softened a little first so a nice soak in a warm bath beforehand really helps with that. Also, if the hair is on the longer side, using scissors before you shave may make it easier. Afterwards, you may have some irritation but the more you do it the more any problems you may have had will lessen. I am so used to it I could not imagine hair down there now! Anyway, hope I could help!!!

for me it just felt itchy the first couple times, but then my skin got used to it and it doesn't itch anymore.

If you shave right, it won't itch at all.
Reply:usually you cant get rid of the itch when the hair is growing back, but if you irritate the skin vaseline will do the trick. i've been shavin for ten years now. ten years sounds like a long time to me now lol

when shaving make sure your not shaving bare skin to blade...put some shaving cream on the area.

also be gentle as this area is very sensitive.

i suggest shaving in a downward motion. shaving upward causes irritation.

make sure the razor isnt dull.

Sometimes i suddenly get itchy and my skin feels like pin pricks. What is wrong with me?

My head starts to get really itchy and i feel tingly and hot all of a sudden.

Im not allergic to anything i dont think.

Sometimes i suddenly get itchy and my skin feels like pin pricks. What is wrong with me?
I think you may have an alergy to a food or something in a food. I would suggest keeping a food diary for a week or two. As soon as you get the symptoms, look at what you've eaten that day and see if anything jumps out as something you eat each time it happens.

It could even be an ingredient in several foods or candy you eat. Gum and mints, particularly sugar-free ones have additives and preservatives to make or keep it sweet. Many of these have side affects you could be experiencing.

Good luck!
Reply:If you continue to experience the tingling and cannot identify a food alergy I would see a doctor and see what they might suggest for you... Report It

Help with itchy pooch: Dog skin infection...?

Is there anything I can do for her on my own. We are broke and the local vet is an expensive crook. She has had some antibiotics before, but as soon as they run out, she's all red and itchy again.

Will she recover eventually on her own? Will anything ever get worse/ health problems. We can't afford to have her on nonstop antibiotics. Is there anything natural or over the counter? Would benadryl help, I know people have used that for dog allergies, but the vet said this was an infection.

How about an anti-yeast cream for baby butts?

Gimme anything useful....thanks!

Dry itchy and swelling skin?

For the past week my ankles have been itchy no swelling. Since yesterday i have had itching everywhere and swelling after i itch. Can someone help me plz!!??

Dry itchy and swelling skin?
try some lotion and benadrly

see a doctor if it gets very bad
Reply:I have very itchy skin also, it's terrible. But the best way for it to stop itching is if you take a shower and use body wash for itchy dry skin. Don't take a shower longer than 10-15 minutes. Don't use extremely hot water to bathe. Warm would be best. Use the shower gel then come out and use gold bond itching body lotion. It's the best, I always get really itchy to the point were my skin is pealing and get scabs. Now I dont get it as much as I use to.

I would use Aveeno body wash.

Itchy spot with skin forming around it?

Yeah I've seen this when I was small but I want to know what it is. Sometimes when there's a strong itch that I scratched a lot on, later on some kind of skin forms around it and gets bigger. If you pop it, liquid comes out. Is this thing suppose to heal my itch wound?

Itchy spot with skin forming around it?
See a dermatologist.

My wife has developed a skin rash which is continuously itchy, what can it be?

My wife has developed a skin rash which becomes very itchy during the night. It's like a dry red blotchy rash which is on her back, front, bottom of neck, legs, arms, hands. Around the edge of her breasts it looks like she has had a sun tan and its a little flaky. The Doctor has prescribed cream which has helped certain areas heal like the hands when both palms got so bad they became covered in blisters. That has now gone away but the itchiness continues daily like everywhere else on the body. The Doctor has said he does not think it's eczema and has tryed to book an appointment with the NHS to see a Dermatologist, however the waiting list is 3mth,s. The itchiness is driving her crazy. She has even tryed cutting out some foods like fish, but does not seem to of worked. Does anyone have any suggestions

My wife has developed a skin rash which is continuously itchy, what can it be?
I suffer with Urticaria (Hives) which starts as an itch and the more I scratch the more it spreads and worse it gets, until my skin bleeds! I usually dont even know I am scratching until someone points it out! I use an over the counter Anti-Histamine daily which controls mine. Last year it stopped once the summer had finished but this year it seems to have continued into the winter but I would suggest trying a course of Anti-Histamines, mine took about a week to kick in originally.
Reply:eczema
Reply:Could be an allergy, have you changed the soap you use or something similar?
Reply:Might be psorisis (sp?) if it is, it may help her to have a course of electric sunbed sessions, as UV light helps it to clear.
Reply:I'm hearing more and more about these unusual rashes, and I'm thinking it could be environmentally connected.

I also have a rash that is itchy at times, and I use calamine lotion, sometimes rubbing alcohol.

It hasn't spread much, but it's been around since summer, and I believe it had to do with a poisonous plant I touched.

I hope your wife gets better. Soon. It's starting to look like winter. Unusually long and damp summers might be a cause.
Reply:try replacing your laundry soap with laundry soda. It doesnt leave a residue on your clothes. I doubt its the cause but it might help with the irritation.

This is kinda weird and uncomfortable but she cant scratch....either use the prescribed cream or vasiline. Get her to put a thin coat over her entire body (or wherever is infected) and wrap her in saran wrap. Stick some of thaose cheap mittens on her hands too if she has fingernails. And get her to sleep like that. Not too sexy but it helps. She will need a shower in the morning to get rid of the grease though.lol.

good luck.
Reply:There are many types of eczema. If the rash worsen at night it most likely is due to over heating etc. I have suffered with eczema most of my life and know it flares up at different times of the year or for a number of different reasons.

The blisters described sound like small water blisters and are just a factor of eczema. The creams prescribed will help just be sure not too use these too often as steroid creams thin the skin.

A change in diet may also help, perhaps tell your wife to try cutting dairy out of her diet for a short period to see if the rash goes down.

I have unfortunately never found a complete cure for eczema, but, making small changes help. Perhaps washing with unperfumed products, wearing washing up gloves when wiping down surfaces etc, not wearing overly tight clothes when the flare up is really bad.

Hope this helps...
Reply:Cut out all dairy, wheat, sugar and anything processed from the diet, use only non-biological washing powder and wear only natural fibres. Ensure that bedding is kept clean and that this also is cleaned using steam or non-biological products. Wear gloves when using any chemicals for cleaning or anything and if you have a pet kick it outside and keep it out. Clean all of the carpets and furnishings to get rid of any irritants or pet hair with a steam cleaner or the like. Bathe every day in water that has tea tree and lavender oils added to it (mix five drops of each in an eggcup full of milk to emulsify them with the bathwater, and only mix with the bath water when you are finished pouring it as otherwise they may evaporate) and wash using any of the great products for very sensitive skins like emulsifying lotion or E45 etc. Ask your pharmacist for guidance with this. Also ask the pharmacist about healing creams to apply after bathing - calendula is a great ointment for this kind of irritation and I know there are also some great medicated ointments to stop itching. I'm one of the unfortunate types who is prone to skin rashes also and I know how uncomfortable and frustrating it can be - Cut everything out and then re-introduce each item slowly, one at a time, and you may discover the trigger. My trigger is emotional stress and also some dietary intolerances. Tell your wife I feel for her!!!
Reply:"Red, itchy bumps or patches all over the place.

Outbreaks of this sort are usually either viral or allergic.

Viral rash: While viral infections of the skin itself, like herpes or shingles (a cousin of chickenpox), are mostly localized to one part of the body, viral rashes are more often symmetrical and everywhere. Patients with such rashes may or may not have other viral symptoms like coughing, sneezing or an stomach upset (nausea). Viral rashes usually last a few days to a week and go way on their own.

Allergic drug rash: Most allergic drug rashes start within two weeks of taking a new medication, especially if the person has taken the drug before. It is very unlikely for medicine that has been prescribed for months or years to cause an allergic reaction. Because there is usually no specific test to prove whether a rash is allergic, doctors may recommend stopping a suspected drug to see what happens. If the rash doesn't disappear within five days of not taking the medication, allergy is unlikely.

Although foods, soaps, and detergents are often blamed for widespread rashes, they are rarely the culprit.

Other rashes

Hives (urticaria) are itchy, red welts that come and go on various parts of the body. Most hives are not allergic, run their course, and disappear as mysteriously as they came.

Because the term is vague, some people use "rash" to describe pimply outbreaks of acne or rosacea on the face.

What should you do if you have a rash?

Most rashes are not dangerous to a person or people in the vicinity (unless they are part of an infectious disease such as chickenpox). Many rashes last a while and get better on their own. It is therefore not unreasonable to treat symptoms like itchy and/or dry skin for a few days to see whether the condition gets milder and goes away.

Nonprescription (over-the-counter) remedies include:

* Anti-itch creams containing camphor, menthol, pramoxine, or diphenhydramine

* Antihistamines like diphenhydramine, chlortrimeton, or loratadine

* Moisturizing lotions

If these measures do not help, or if the rash persists or becomes more widespread, a visit to a general physician or dermatologist is advisable.

There are many, many other types of rashes that we have not covered in this article. So it is doubly important, if you have any questions about the cause or treatment of a rash to contact your doctor. This article is really just as the title indicates: "Rash 101 - Introduction to Common Skin Rashes."

Reply:I have had a similar rash since July. My kids have occasionally had something that looks like a mild case of chicken pox. Two days ago my son slept in my bed, and now he has an extreme case. My husband is not affected. Our family has been prescribed mid range topical steriods and been labeled, "atopic dermatitis" sufferers. Given the night onset, I am now investigating parasites such as mites and or an allergic reaction to mites/ dust mites. I'm glad to hear your doctor is offering help. We have been to allergists and dematologists with multiple perscriptions, but no long term solution. I am now using baby oil, hot showers, benadryl, and claritin(a.m.) just to get through the night. This has provided some relief.
Reply:I'm not a doctor or dermatologist but it SOUNDS like psoriasis to me. I've suffered for ten years but without seeing it wouldn't like to say for sure. To relieve the itching try and get hold of some emulsifying ointment. This has the texture of lard but keeps the skin supple (to stop it cracking) and relieves the itching.

There are no active ingredients in it so it is perfectly safe to use even if you are not sure of the diagnosis. So if it is an allergic reaction emulsifying ointment won't make it worse.

If you can afford to go private for one initial consultation then I don't think it costs all that much and may be worth it to ease the itching. If it is psoriasis the itching is terrible as it is not relieved by scratching and seems to come from deep within the skin, also it can bleed very easily which then leaves you prone to infection.

Good luck, I hope you find out soon and get appropriate treatment.

I just bought a dog and i have an allergic reaction my skin gets itchy and red what medicine is reccomended?

to provide you with further details to help me, i just recently bought a dog and every time she licks me i start getting itchy, i get little bumps on my face and arms and sometimes my stomach, they look like little bug bites but she doesnt have fleas so i think i might be allergic to her saliva my eyes also get itchy and red, is there any medicine you would reccomend for me to take so that i dont have to get rid of my puppy? oh and ive looked at allergy medicines but nothing seems right since im not asthmatic please help me!!

I just bought a dog and i have an allergic reaction my skin gets itchy and red what medicine is reccomended?
Try some Benadryl, you can get it at Wal-Mart. Talk to the pharmacist there, he may be able to give you more help.
Reply:If you are allergic to your dog, I would talk to your doctor before you start taking medicines. There are tons of allergy meds you can buy over the counter, but what one is right for you? Do you really want to be taking allergy meds for the rest of your life? Sorry, having had allergies all my life, I would find another home for the dog rather than subject myself to allergy meds. They make you feel terrible!
Reply:You are definitely allergic. You will probably need a prescription allergy medicine like Zyrtec. Or even better for you-- if you could bear it-- take the dog back maybe?? You may be able to find a breed that you can live with and won't cost you $$$ in allergy medicine. If you haven't bonded with him too tightly, that may be the best option. If you can't bear to give your pooch up, ask your doc what meds (otc or otherwise)he would reccommend.
Reply:Before you get rid of your dog try taking her to a groomer and asking the groomer to bathe her with a hypoallergenic shampoo. You may not be allergic to the dog but something on her.
Reply:It is not allergy. It may be animal scabies (Sarcoptic mange).

Consult a Dermatologist.
Reply:You seem to have the same problem as my 16 year old son,

I make sure the dog gets bathe 1 or 2 times a week, wash all of you linen every week with very hot water, you bathe right away when you get the ittitation with warm water, then try to take allery medicine, Claritin, benadryl, I would suggest if it does not get controlled this way see you doctor, do that the can recommend something better or run allery test to see if you are allergic to dog hair. My son mamanges to do well like this so try it

The dogs with the least to cause allergies are Malteases or poodles because they do not create Dander under their coats.

Hope you get better

By the wat we also have 2 poodles 3 dashounds and one pit bul/boxer mix which is the the to give my sone the most allergies.
Reply:well,i know you love dogs like i do but it is a better idea to get rid of thedog.
Reply:I hate to say, but I recommend you find her a new home while she's a puppy and easy to find a home for. If your allergy is this bad now, it will only get worse with time and eventually you will probably have to find a new home for her anyway. I love dogs and hate to tell you this, but it's best to deal with it up front because a dog is a 16 year commitment and the allergy will get worse with continued exposure! (You may not have asthma yet, but over time you'd be a lot more likely to develop it.)

If you can't bring yourself to find a new home, at a minimum keep her out of the sleeping areas of the house, wear long sleeves when you are around her, dust like a maniac, get a HEPA air filter, vacuum and mop every day, air out the house often. Also, limit the dander etc by giving her her own furniture to sleep / rest on so she won't be tempted to sit where you do.

My whole face skin peels off so flaky&itchy&rash too, no cream can help. What should i do?

My skin problem happened a month ago after I ran out of medication as I moved from Thailand to England. I used to apply L.A.G. cream on my face as my Thai doctor told me to. She refused to tell me its chemical name, only said there's lots of ingredients. She told me I had dry skin problem and this medicine'll help reduce the flakes. I was surprised cuz my skin didn't look that bad at all but I believed her and used it.

I have no allergy record but my skin is peeling noticeably, worse than before I used the medicine. When i touch it, the flakes fall all over. I also feel the whole face is stretched all the time (the feeling on the face after u wash your face with strong soap). It's also itchy and red all the time. Now, I start having red spots in the same area, too.

I didn't use face wash product at all after this occured. I've tried various kinds of moisturisers e.g. water based, gel+cream based, green tea extract, or even those anti-aging with SPF 15. None helped.

Pls help!

My whole face skin peels off so flaky%26amp;itchy%26amp;rash too, no cream can help. What should i do?
Try an antifungal cream - Lotrimin or clotrimazole, on a small patch. If it has a beneficial effect, you may have eczema, which can be caused by candida (yeast) fungus.

You may want to read some basic info about yeast syndromes at www.hufa.org - the yeast link, before you do anything.

If you go to a dermatologist, ask him/her to test for the yeast fungus.
Reply:I have two suggestions for you to try:

1) Aveeno lotion - made with collodial oatmeal and it really helped me

2) 100% pure Aloe Vera Gel. You can buy this at the Drugstore or Trader Joe's if you have it.

You can order these both from www.drugstore.com or www.walgreens.com too
Reply:I wouldn't use anything if the person giving it to me refused to tell me what was in it in the first place. Maybe you should see a Dermatologist.
Reply:did you try proactive my sister has it and it works
Reply:Wash your face with an organic soap that has olive oil, lavender or aloe vera. Then use organic aloe vera gel at night. Leave the gel on as a mask overnight. It flakes overnight but it works to clear up the skin. Sometimes I also leave a light layer on my face as moisturizer.
Reply:Go see a dermatologist right away, and describe to the doctor what the thai Dr. gave to you. Sounds like it really messed your skin up. Well once you get it resolved use keri lotion works great. I have very sensitive, dry, red skin it burned 1-2 days and now my skin feels great.

The skin between my fingers is itchy and peeling. What is that and will it pass by itself?

The webby skin between my fingers both on the hand and feet peel and are red and itchy. The rest of my body skin is OK... What the hell is this - and how can it be also in my hands and feet at the same time?

The skin between my fingers is itchy and peeling. What is that and will it pass by itself?
You have a fungus, similar to "athlete's foot" on your hands and feet. Wash your feet and hands thoroughly with soap and warm water, pat dry (make sure you get them really dry) and apply Lamisil or similar product abou 3 times daily. If it doesn't clear up in a week or so I would go to the doctor. Keep your hands out of your eyes and mouth, too, or it will spread there as well.
Reply:it is athlete feet on your hands and feet. if it is blistery and itchy then it is a fungus. you gotta get some athlete's cream NOT spray and / or go to the doctors if it persists more than 5 days.
Reply:sounds like dermatitis, you can buy cream that relieves the itching, not sure what its called.
Reply:Could be fungus. Try Tinactin. If that doesn't work, see a doctor.
Reply:no its not pass itself. u have to apply some anti fungal cream.
Reply:Might just be dead skin cells peeling off. However, you should use cortizone or an equivalent to heal the itching and redness. It should make you feel better. If not, itr might be that you are allergic to something, some type of clothing maybe or food. Do you have eczema?
Reply:It happens to me sometimes, but I live in the desert (southern Nevada). My hands will get so bad sometimes that they will crack and bleed from the dryness. I just use extra moisturizing hand lotion a few times a day until it stops, then once a day for a while after that. A girl one time gave me some melon scented lotion from Bath and Body Works that did the trick. I didn't care that it was a woman's scent, I was in too much discomfort to care. Jergins makes a good lotion that doesn't leave a strong scent, and is a lot less expensive.

What does it actually mean when your skin is itchy?

This is might seem like a really stupid question, but apart from when suffering from an allergy or a disease such as excema etc, what is actually happening in your body when your skin itches??

Thanks =] x♥

What does it actually mean when your skin is itchy?
The histamines in your blood stream pool at one spot on your body, making it itch. They are the same histamines that go haywire with allergies, but sometimes they all congregate when nothing is wrong and it itches.
Reply:Usually there is a release of histamine from your body and that leads to itch. Take an antihistamine for a few days (not %26gt; 10 days though).

Why when I get cold my skin becomes itchy, red, and often I get white welts?

I dress extremely warm, and it still happens....Its not just where my skin is exposed it's my legs and wrists mostly but sometimes my stomach and back too. DOes anyone have any idea why this happens or what to do to stop it?

Why when I get cold my skin becomes itchy, red, and often I get white welts?
you have cold urticaria, you can try benadryl or zyrtec when you know you're going to be out in the cold. But as with any allergy syndrome avoidance of the trigger is the best treatment.
Reply:Is it like your hands go red with white patterns all over- ive got it but nothing to worry about its called ranods disease and many people have it. Its known as a blood flow condition when parts of your body get cold, my hands turn white sometimes even with gloves - your condition seems a bit different though, i only get it on my hands and wrists and its not itchy at all - see a doctor maybe if its worrying you
Reply:I'm a doctor,so i'll try to ans. medically, your'e skin can become red, itch %26amp; so on by many conditions, the crux, you have to find what causes it,how? well, you have to rule out whether it is either cold, tight clothing, too warm clothing, the season, your'e profession, any food type, itch or scratch. From what you say it seems tight clothing or too warm clothing, cancel them out to know if its cold that causes it by wearing loose and not too warm clothes, if it aint cold then it must too tight clothing especially around the wrists, the belt and socks. Remove this factor and if it still happens then it must be a seasonal or genetic condition and for that you'll have to go to a doctor,

Reply:Dont bath your dog too often. It can cause their skin to dry out. Probably should take your dog to the vet. I did. My dog had allergies.
Reply:Pour some vinegar all over and let stand for a couple of minutes then rinse off well, try to use a mild soap for this like a baby's bath or soap :-)
Reply:CALL HIS VET AND ASK......EXPERIMENTS R NOT ALWAYS GOOD......CARE ABT THE POOR DOG....HE MAY HAVE SUM KIND ALLERGY OR INFECTION WHICH MIGHT NEED TO BE TREATED BY AN INJECTION......
Reply:don't bathe it too frequently. Make sure the soap is rinsed out completely. It will help dry skin out. Could be type of shampoo or flea dip. Ask vet for help.
Reply:We feed our dog fish oil, 1000 iu per day. He loves it but also his coat and skin have great luster to it, and the omega faty acids are supposed to be good for them as it is for us.
Reply:If the over the counter remedies don't do the job, then see your vet. I use to have a dog with the same problem, and sometime the condition can only be partially helped , even with professional care. You vet can advise you after he examines your dog to see what might be causing the dry skin condition in your dog.
Reply:I agree with Potts. Have had dogs for many years and used fish oil. I have also used oatmeal shampoo. If the dry itchy skin persists I would call the vet however because he may have another problem.
Reply:ask ur vet. doc.
Reply:Use an oatmeal-based shampoo (available at vet) and a real good conditioner. If this doesn't help, bring her to the vet, my pup was given an antibiotic and it really helped.
Reply:dont overwash your dog..this causes skin problems..if you do wash it often, use an oatmeal, aloe based shampoo.
Reply:try an oatmeal based shampoo, with lanolin in it. Also a small drop of oil on food may help.
Reply:You might want to take your dog to the vet to rule out any food-related allergies. As others have said, don't bathe your dog too often. If it's cold where you live, you might want to invest in a doggie jacket so your dog's skin isn't exposed to the cold (may be making it itchy).

Also, some dog owners I know put an oil supplement on their dog's food to help the skin and coat. Check out jbpet.com for such supplements.
Reply:Go to your local pet store. There are actual products for dog's who get dry skin. I can't remember the name brand but the store will be able to help you.

Small red ring on skin-not itchy.....help!?

I have just noticed that I have a small red ring on my thigh, with scaly skin on the inside of it. It doesn't itch or hurt and I don't think it's been there long or I would have noticed. Anyone know what this is?

Small red ring on skin-not itchy.....help!?
See a Doctor, it might be exema, ringworm (ewwww!), or the beginnings of a staff infection.
Reply:it's prob ringworm (it's NOT an actual worm!) you can use any cream for athletes foot to clear it up
Reply:Could be ring worm, have you been in pool or locker room, it is contagious, and that is where it is generally picked up. See the Pharmacist there are OTC anti fungal creams, or see your Doctor he may prescribe some. Apply diligently it will clear up in no time, you are getting it early. Best of luck
Reply:All the things mentioned are possibilities. In addition if it looks like a bulls-eye, which is what you describe, it could be a tick bite with a possibility of Lyme Disease infection. You should have it checked immediately.
Reply:This web page should help!

GOOD LUCK!

I take Ritalin.. and my skin is itchy a lot!?

Im taking Ritalin, and the left part of my face is broken out because my skin is really dry and my legs will sometimes itch really really bad. I started putting lotion on more frequently, but my skin still feels dry. I thought maybe vitamins would help me, but that doesn't seem to help either. Does anyone else have these problems? Help!!

I take Ritalin.. and my skin is itchy a lot!?
There are other drugs to treat ADHD, and you may be allergic to this one. Ask your doctor about Concerta or other drugs.
Reply:I was put on Ritalin when I was 12 and was on it till I was 18 and from that poing on I never felt "Right " unless I was high. It is a bad drug and can cause and addiction to other drugs. The best thing to do is try to get off all drugs . Report It

Reply:Ratalin itself is a problem and could be its sdie effects. Ritalin is such a big peoblem that army won't recruit you. If older people take it for any reason their chances for stroke and heart attack increase dramatically.

I don't know if your parents want you to take it, if so please tell them to study a lil bit about this drug and let you treat with other things than this scary drug.
Reply:I could see where maybe, just maybe, this would be a short term effect if you just started taking it. However, it would not be a long term or regular side effect.
Reply:Maybe your allergic to it I would call your doctor and explain your systems. That would bethe best thing to tell you.

My inner leg skin is itchy and peeling... why??

For the past few days my inner leg skin (right by... there...) has itched all the time, and today i realized it was peeling... like a sunburn...

Could it be a weird reaction from shaving?

.. or is it something else...

My inner leg skin is itchy and peeling... why??
Did you use a new shave cream? If the messing around was that long ago, I doubt that has anything to do with it. I think it may be an allergic reaction to something. Go see your Doc.

How can i cure my dog's itchy dry skin?

A tablespoon of vegatable oil in the dog food...and use a medicated shampoo...it worked for our dog...

How can i cure my dog's itchy dry skin?
If it has fleas you can use piff paff.
Reply:Hydracortizone spray or Benadryl (but talk to your vet about that first). I give it to my dog for behavioral reasons but it has helped her skin. She has a history of severely dry itchy skin.
Reply:First you need to deterimine the cause. There are many products out there that will help, but using the wrong product will make it worse. Talk to your vet to determine the cause, and get recommendations on products to treat the problem.
Reply:It can either be caused by the shampoo you're using or the dog food you are feeding him, or even fleas. Take him to the vet and they will be able to help you.
Reply:put a little virgin olive oil in with the wet food and in a few weeks her coat will be great
Reply:you can try a human shampoo for dry and flaky skin ive done it before..but remember it wont just go away in seconds give it a chance...
Reply:use a dog shampoo that contains oatmeal this will sooth the skin
Reply:You need to take our dog to the vet and rule out any forms of mange, as my friend thought her dog just had itchy skin but it turned out to be demodex mange.
Reply:go to a pet supply, they will help you
Reply:tablespoon of olive oil everyday in his food. don't bathe him more than once a week. if it continues...u may need to see vet
Reply:If it's not fleas or ticks, but just dry skin...they have special shampoos for that kind of thing. You can look for them at any pet specialty store. Just make sure you always use dog shampoo....never people shampoo because that will just make it worse.
Reply:when i had my st bernard, she used to get hot spots. the vet told me to use vegetable oil. just make sure that it gets on the skin and rub it in. it doesnt hurt the dog. theres nothing harmful in it.

if the dog licks it off, thats ok.

otherwise, if its fleas, flea stuff like frontline works. sevin dust his bed and spread on the carpet like you do carpet fresh. leave it on for a couple of hours then you can vacuum it up. the sevin dust is good for the yard too.
Reply:Pet stores have lots of different products for this. Spray on moisturizers and leave in conditioners work well, if the itchiness is caused by bathing or something, and not a medical reason.

Why does my skin get itchy after every time i take a shower?

It might just be sensitive or dry skin, but i've used tons of different kinds of soaps for that already.

Why does my skin get itchy after every time i take a shower?
I have this very same problem. I had for a while such a hard time of it that i hated to even get a bath or a shower. It has gotten better. I don't know the exact reason but I suspect that #1 we wash off all of our own natural oils and that dries out our skin

#2 there may be something in our water that we are allergic to. although that sounds amazingly funny remember they must add chemicals to our water supply and some of us are very prone to allergic reactions. It seems that in the summer time I have a more difficult time.

Good luck I hope this was helpful in some way
Reply:Chill out on the soaps and use lotion after a shower.
Reply:Probably your allergic idk. Go see your doctor!
Reply:you might have hard water, which is common among people with well water. you might just want to have it tested or something.
Reply:Use a soap with moisturizer. or you might not be getting all the soap off of you
Reply:Got to be something you're using that's bugging your skin. Could it be to do with your towel- i.e. the washing powder. Otherwise, I'd say, try not using soap- I don't use it all since it dries out my skin so much. And always moisturise straightaway after a shower. If it's bad, go to the doctor so he/she can rule out allergies.
Reply:Um, most likely you're using too much soap.
Reply:it is because your skin is dry, put some lotion on when you get out or some baby oil to reguvinate your skin so that it does not itch, if you use softner in your water and have not checked on it lately it might be time to fix that as well.
Reply:Dove makes some good soaps that are 1/4 moisturizer. Maybe try one of those bodywash liquids? Good luck with it. Ask your doctor at your next check up.
Reply:Try using an all natural soap, and a good baby oil like:

Getaguru's 100% Olive Oil soap, and Burt's Bees Apricot Baby Oil. That will help with the sensitive, and the dry part.

Most soaps have alot of chemicals that are harsh, even if they say they're for "sensitive'. Alot of times they're detergent, not real soap.

Getaguru's soap is inexpensive, and a jar of Burt's Bees lasts forever, almost. You can get the Baby oil, at drugstores, grocery stores, and even Cracker Barrel.
Reply:Use a moisturizing soap and use lotion right from the shower. Dont dry yourself with a towel just put on baby oil or vasaline.
Reply:Maybe that's the problem? Maybe your body isn't used to constant changing of soaps. Or maybe there is a specific chemical that they put in soap and shampoo that you may be allergic to. Just try different routines until somethings works for you. You can see a doctor too, but people always suggest that! And i'm sure you don't want to go to the doctors. Maybe. Good luck!
Reply:you have allergy
Reply:Happens to me too....dry skin is the problem. Cut back on the soap...
Reply:u might need to exfoliate.ud feel better after.

Why does my skin get itchy when I use my body massager?

I have a body massager and when I use it on my back, my back gets incredibly itchy. Does anyone know why? Thanks

Why does my skin get itchy when I use my body massager?
It stimulates the nerves and blood vessels. That's why it feels itchy. There is also the possibility that you are mildly allergic to the cover of it.

Just a guess on the 2nd part.
Reply:Maybe you're allergic to it

Try using a different one
Reply:You're shedding skin cells from your back; it itches so that you will aide the process by scratching.

What is the best cure for itchy winter skin?

I've tried several different brands of moisturizing lotion and body wash, but so far nothing stops the itching for more than a few minutes.

What is the best cure for itchy winter skin?
take a bath you filthy boy
Reply:glycerin!
Reply:Vaseline
Reply:According to my TV. Gold Bond Medicated Powder cures your worst winter itch.
Reply:i use baby oil, when you bath or shower before drying off cover your self with the oil and rub the excess water and oil in to your skin then pat yourself dry , it keeps you moisturised for hours .
Reply:Aloe and a hand/body lotion w/out alcohol (like" Keri" Lotion).
Reply:If the place where you stay is pretty cold then you can rub mustard oil on your whole body thoroughly and then take a hot water bath and this will solve your itchy winter skin problem.
Reply:Drink lots of water, you need to moisture from the inside as well. Use aloe vera gel on your skin.

Your body wash may be drying out your skin as well so you may want to change soaps to something like a glycerine soap or Dove or Ivory.
Reply:I think u should keep on putting lotion
Reply:Try any of the glycerin soaps...I used to get them at Bath and Body works. Also get more moisture into the air of your house. Use a room humidifier, add one on to your furnace, or simply put a large pot of water on your stove. If you do the water on the stove use med or med low heat, throw a few whole cloves in for a nice fragrance, and set the timer so you don't forget it's on. You want it to steam, not necessarily boil. Depending on the size of your pot let it steam for an hour or so at a time...a couple of times a day.

My 4 yr old has red, itchy, chaped skin w/little blisters around both of her pinky toes. What could it be?

usually althetes foot doesn't involve blisters. has she had all her vaccines? when i was 6 i got the chicken pox really badly, I recovered but then and after would get lil itchy blisters on my fingers and toes whenever I was stressed out. my mom took me to my ped, and she said it was a virus left over from when i had the chicken pox so severly. i am now 25, still getting the lil stress blisters that itch like hell.

take her to the doc, have them checked out, you never know until you get her looked at.

Why can a person get itchy, flacky skin in thier groin area?

Itchy flaky skin in that region is usually caused by sweating. It can become a fungal infection so you can either visit your doctor/chemist, or try an online chemist instead.

Why can a person get itchy, flacky skin in thier groin area?
Could be a yeast infection. Have you tried an antifungal cream?
Reply:lol. there are a lot of reasons that i dont want to say.

but you might have herpes, or crabs. :D go to the doctor.

it's really bad for you.
Reply:it could be a yeast infection or jock itch. There are so many things that could be wrong, it could be dry sking. Go to the dr and let them check you out and make sure that its nothing serious.
Reply:sounds like jock itch. which is actually a form of tinea (like ringworm). try using an antifungal cream on it, like tinactin or monistat. if it gets better, it is a fungus, probably either jock itch or yeast. if not, better show it to a doctor. either way, i doubt it is crabs. they don't cause flaky skin. good luck.

How to get rid of itchy underarm skin tags?

Don't know why they would itch, But an old fashion painless working remedy my grandmother used - Very thin (thread like) nylon sewing thread or lightest fishing line. Tie around base of skin tag tightly and knot it. After a few days it turns black (due to loss of blood flow keeping the cells alive) then naturally falls off without soreness, bleeding, or infection. As a precaution after it falls off I would use a little antiseptic cream. You can do this to a few at a time/all at once if you have more than one. Hope it helps, it worked for our family for years and still does.

How to get rid of itchy underarm skin tags?
Close your eyes and shave them off.
Reply:i had a skin tag (it didn't itch though) i went to the docs and he froze it, it went black after a couple of days then drop off.... gross!!!!
Reply:Ice cube to numb them. Tweasers to pull them outwards, and surgical siccors to cut from the base. This is how doctors do it anyway, and they charge $100 each to do it. You may need someone to help you, but it isn't easy finding someone willing. Good luck. 10 points please? :-)
Reply:My DH clips them off with a fingernail clipper, which skeeves me out completely. But the doc just slices them off with a thin blade. Then put antibiotic ointment and a bandaid. Don't shave there for awhile.
Reply:Ice it. Wrap fishing line around it. And pull. Apply hydrogen peroxide, antibiotic ointment and bandage.
Reply:ask a doctor for a help
Reply:Since they are in a more sensitive area, I'd probably just go ahead and go to a dermatologist ans have him freeze them off. (cryotherapy). There are some natural home-made remedies you could try, but they take a little longer.

I have had an itchy labia (skin on top) for about 2 years?

What could be the cause?

I have had an itchy labia (skin on top) for about 2 years?
yeast infection for 2 years? ouch
Reply:lice or crabs
Reply:It could be a number of things, lice (crabs), a skin infection, skin irritation, or it might just be itchy in general. If it bothers you intensely, or it gets red or irritated, I would see a doctor.
Reply:May be a bacterial infection, or sensitive to certain fabrics and detergants.
Reply:Could be pre-menopause
Reply:get larger underwear
Reply:I must admit, you are quite brave for asking that question on here... (rofl). But I think maybe it ( your labia) is just dry. Try using a thin layer of Vaseline daily. This might help. Sometimes our urine tends to dry out the skin in that area.

Good Luck!
Reply:Do you Shave?... If you do the hair itches when its growing back so either shave daily or try waxing. If not then maybe you should try trimmin the hedges a bit. Wear cotton Panties and use moisturizer on it maybe its dry and that's causing the irritation... It could also be the soap you use. you might be allergic to it try another brand.
Reply:Dear-Jesus! 2-years and you have not asked the Doctor yet? May I ask why? I mean I know it's a personal thing, But my God, after 2 years you would think someone would have went to the Doctor by then? I know if I had an "Itchy" in my private- area, I'd be at the Doctor the same week if it didn't pass after trying a couple different things, Like changing bath-soap, laundry-detergent, etc.etc. If none of that worked off to the Doc's I go! You might should consider the same hun, Seriously, It's time. Hope everything turns out okay for you. Take care, and God-Bless to You and Yours. 1st Sgt., 7th Special Forces, (Ret.) Vietnam 67-70

My dog has itchy, dry skin with soars all over him. what do I do?

He is a german shepherd, and I don't know what to do???

My dog has itchy, dry skin with soars all over him. what do I do?
you do not need to change shampoos.

this may help, as well as changing foods, but the best thing to do is go to the vet and let them take a skin scrapping.

My dog had this before, it took nearly 3 months for it to clear up the first time.

The second time he got it I took him to the vet, come to find out he is allergic to the dyes in his bedding and collar.

They gave me a bottle of shampoo, lotion and anti-itch pills, 1 week later he looks fine.

Take a visit to the vet so they can make sure it's not some kind of skin disease.

edit*

it cannot be mange if it's not contagious.

It does not sound like mange to me. He said itchy skin and sores, not rotting flesh and loosing hair!

Oh and car oil does not get rid of mange...well it kind of does, it gets rid of the dog that may have mange.
Reply:my dog has the same problem. u have to get some oatmeal shampoo and DO NOT use conditioner
Reply:It could be infection, allergies or mange. Take him to the vet right away. Mange can be contagious. No at-home remedy can give a definite diagnosis until it may be too late. The dry skin, it possibly could be remedied if you haven't been using proper shampoo products, but the sores definitely need to be looked into. It's gone to a point where you need a vet's help.
Reply:Sounds like he might have hot spots or it could possibly be mange. . Take him to the vet, even it's something else you need to know what it is to treat it. Don't let him be miserable
Reply:It sounds like mange. I once "heard" from an old timer, that "old car oil" spread on the animal will get rid of mange.
Reply:Weekly baths with oatmeal based shampoo. And put him on an all natural human grade food. I use flint river ranch food. Here is the link. http://www.squidoo.com/dog-health-care/
Reply:you should take him to the vet and see what they say
Reply:Take him to the vet. They will be able to see what the problem is and give you an antibiotic to treat your dog. If they determine it is simply a skin condition, the may dip him to remove the scales and heal the affected areas of his body.

If you are asking this question on here, chances are you don't know what the problem is and you don't need to try and diagnose this yourself because you are risking causing the dog further problems.
Reply:Take him to the vet. He needs medication to clear up the inflammation.

AFTER you see the vet, consider changing his diet. I'd feed a brand of organic, natural food: Inova, Prairie, Newmans. You can also feed a raw food homemade diet but you must have the proportions right or your dog will not have adequate nutrition. I'd add some cold pressed Flax seed to his food too. This food is more expensive but you will save $$ in the long run. Less vet bills, less dog poop, the dog will eat less because the nutrition is way better. These sores can get infected. Your poor dog has got to be miserable.
Reply:1. Get him to a vet

2. Follow vet's instructions

3. check your food in case of food allergies

4. make sure your dog can handle the flea and tick chemicals

5. wash and sterilize all bedding and areas that dog has been as this could be numerous things from allergies to contagious cross species mange!
Reply:As other people have said could be mange or it could be flea allergy will probably need Malaseb shampoo and antibiotics

from the vet, my Shepherd had this skin condition.

How old is your dog and what do you feed him on? You may need to change his diet as well to a Hyper-allergenic food, also can give evening primrose oil and star flower oil (Holland%26amp; Barrett if in UK they sell it combined) that helps the skin and coat condition.

car oil will burn the skin do NOT USE it

My staffie has itchy, flaky skin.i bathed him sunday could it be i didnt get it all out or somethin out?help?

It could be. Rinse him off good again and when he's dry, brush his coat thoroughly. This will stimulate his oil glands so that his skin wont be dry.

My staffie has itchy, flaky skin.i bathed him sunday could it be i didnt get it all out or somethin out?help?
possible,,, and what brand of soap was used, could also be a reaction to that..

maybe try a non-soap bath... just rinse well, and let him dry, then wait for all the natural oils to come back..
Reply:I would rinse him again in case you didn't manage to get it all out, if that doesn't work, take him to the vet, it could be an allergic reaction to the shampoo that was used.
Reply:if it hasn't happened before and just happened since the bath than yes.....i would give him a water bath (no soap) to make sure that there isn't something still left on his skin....
Reply:It very well could be dry skin, or it might be a bit of shampoo left over (which happens to use humans too!)

You might consider rinsing him down to see if any suds come up, and if that doesn't help then it may just be dry skin. That can be fixed by bathing him not as often (and when you do bathe him, use a moisturizing shampoo like oatmeal shampoo), or even by changing his food.

If its really bad (as in he is scratching until he bleeds) you can consult your vet for a topical anti-biotic, as well as something to calm the scratching.
Reply:He will be fine, this has happened to mine sometimes after a bath. Dont worry about it, it will get back to normal soon but use a puppy shampoo on him next time as it probably is the shampoo. You really dont need to bath staffs that oftern anyway as they tend not to be smelly dogs anyway, I always think the have just a smell of leather and after a grooming with a soft brush it goes away.
Reply:Try washing him again and rinsing him really really well, and check its all out. If its not better after this maybe you could go to the vets. im not sure if Dogs can get it but maybe he has dandruff? you might be a ble to get a special shampoo for him. If no tmake sure you only use gentle products so they will no tirritate his skin.

Good luck!
Reply:I have a staffy and I find that he is prone to the same condition in the hotter weather also if a harsh shampoo is used on his skin

If this condition has only just come on since u washed him I would make sure the shampoo is a gentle one he may have very sensitive skin, and make sure its washed out thoroughly
Reply:That is always possible. One tip after you rinse, rinse, rinse with clear water is to do a final rinse with a vinegar solution. Mix a cup of white vinegar with a bucket of water and pour or sponge on, making sure to get the dogs belly and under legs. Preferably do this outside and let the dog shake off and air dry. (don't rinse off the vinegar) It will remove soap residue and restore the dogs skin pH level, remove smells and leave them shiney.

If this doesn't stop the scratching overnight then a trip to the vet may be in order. There could be an underlying medical cause, a food allergy etc. Your vet may want to prescribe a medication to prevent a secondary infection if the dog has broken the skin.

Over bathing can also cause dry skin.
Reply:I would advise going to the vet. Dog skin problems rarely get better on their own and while you are treating for soap residue your dog could be suffering from something more serious. Mange for example could cause these symptoms.
Reply:I would echo those who say get him checked out by a vet.

Skin conditions, even those that are mild can be caused by a wide variety of things, from parasites to allergies and a variety of others. Regardless of the problem, most of the 'treatments' and shampoos available in supermarkets and pet shops rarely if ever actually help and only delay you getting the proper advice and treatment. Skin problems are a lot easier to deal with if picked up early. Far too often I see dogs that have been scratching for weeks and even months and often have secondary problems on top of what was causing the itchiness in the first place.

There are a variety of different treatments, topical and systemic that can help, many only treat the symptoms and not the root cause so often the vet will want to do diagnostic tests to get to the bottom of the problem. Its very easy to get frustrated with these conditions as they can be time consuming and expensive to sort out, but the sooner you start the better chance you have of fixing it quickly. Animals react differently so the correct course of action for one may not be the same as another, so I wouldn't like to advise any specific route of testing or treatment in particular without having examined the animal myself.

In short, go to a vet and get him checked out.
Reply:Try not to wash him too often as it strips his coat of natural oils, very important to rince properly. A regular brush will help restore oils. Try a teaspoon of cod liver oil added to his food, not too much as consequences could be difficult to pick up !!
Reply:your dog must be allergic to the soap that you bathed him with. You should not bath dogs anyway, this is how they start to smell. You are washing out all his natural oils from his hair!! this could be another reason he is itchy and has flaky skin.
Reply:Yes, your dog has dry skin.

You may consider giving your dog a teaspoon of olive oil or fish oil on his food every day. This will keep the coat shiny too.

If the condition persists see you vet.
Reply:Staffies are prone to mange and skin propblems please see a vet to treat this before it gets any worse.

How to treat itchy flacky skin around nose ,chin ,eyebows ?

iam male 35 years old

How to treat itchy flacky skin around nose ,chin ,eyebows ?
use vasaline

this works. I have really dry skin in the winter and this is the only thing that works.
Reply:It's always a good idea to check with your doctor first on medications, but over the counter hydrocortisone cream should help. Sounds like you have dermatitis/eczema. Hydrocortisone will reduce the redness and itching. Apply the cream in the morning and again at night. You may also have an allergy to something you are using on your face. Consider a very mild face cleanser for sensitive skin. Good luck.
Reply:try Palmer's Cocoa Butter, should be able to get it at any drug store/pharmacy.

Reply:Try a bath with white vinagar. then drink at least 6-8 glasses of water a day. I would call the doc and see if you can get in. I think that you might bennifit with a good CREAM not a lotion. Hope it helps.
Reply:its called eczema use pure vitamin e oil and drink lots of water
Reply:Winter weather and a vata dosha (Ayurveda) causes it.

Lotion won't really help. You need to massage a mixture of sesame seed oil and almond oil all over your body before showering. It will make all the difference! You can also take a bath in oatmeal water-that will also reduce the dry itchy skin.
Reply:That often happens to me too. During the winter you get dry skin because of the extreme weather and dry heat inside. I suggest lowering the heat in your house and shower, using a humidifier, and showering with an aloe or oatmeal based, moisturizing bodywash. Follow with a heavy cream lotion, like Nivea while skin is still damp, Also, lube yourself up before bed.
Reply:Get some aveeno intensive care for dry and itcy skin it helps alot and relieves on contact and if you like that menthol cool feeling they have that kind too.Its about $7-9 dollars they have it at rite aid walgreens walmart target ect..
Reply:see a skin specialist.

it could be an allergy reaction to something

Maybe the weather
Reply:lets see...it could be caused by a number of things: the weather, too much dry heat, not enough fresh air, eczema(you should see a doctor if its really bad, because there are special creams you need if its ecsema)....so you should try an exfoliater for your body, and use it in the shower, than put lotion on after you get out, the kind of lotion that doesn't have fragrance(i recomend origins)...exercise helps your skin overall, especially outside, get fresh air. drink 6-8 glasses of water a day, and if your skin is extremely itchy and dry, and this doesn't work, try some lotion with aloe vera in it, and take some fish oil vitamins. you really should exfoliate though, it feels good, and gets rid of all that ichy dry skin:) and lotion will quench the new skin underneath so it doesn't dry out.
Reply:I have similar - my brother and I have intense itching on our shins of our legs - scratching feels incredibly itchy, but once you stop, it burns like crazy. He scratches to a point of drawing blood, but I stop before then. I believe it is a vitamin B deficiency. It runs in our family (vitamin problem), so you may entertain trying vitamin B or some combination vitamin/proprietary blend at a health food store that can assist you with your dilemma. I'm going to check into it, myself. I'm going crazzzeeee!

Reply:Drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated and use a face pack of ripe bananas and honey. You can find more cheap, effective and natural home remedies for dry skin at the link below.
Reply:Dry skin is a big thing. One of the problem is because we wash in chlorinated water everyday. Chlorine is a bleaching agent and it strips away the natural skin oil. All the cream and lotion we put on is not the same and it is a after application. I do have dry skin myself and I use shower filter. It really help is you case is same as mine. Use shower filter and also apply the cream to see it that works. I myself uses shower filter and finds it to work for me, but still I use cream.

Dry, red, itchy, bumpy skin? I tried Eucerin, Aveeno...OUCH!!! HELP Please!?

It is on my legs and arms and itches.

Dry, red, itchy, bumpy skin? I tried Eucerin, Aveeno...OUCH!!! HELP Please!?
You need a good moisturizer something like Lipikar Balm. It absorbs nicely without leaving a greasy feeling and it soothes. My Dermatologist is against baby oil because it clogs the pores.
Reply:Try something that has salicylic acid in it
Reply:You may have psoriasis or eczema. If that is the case you should go to the dermatologist and get a prescription ointment for it.
Reply:What you've tried so far hasn't helped, so you need to first find out what this is - contact dermatitis, allergic dermatitis or something more. See your primary care provider for evaluation.
Reply:Have you been to the doctor??? You might want to have it checked out since the over the counter stuff is not working.
Reply:Better ask a professional, but in the mean time, try an oatmeal bath to relieve the itchy-scratchy
Reply:Try Hydrocortisone (1%) cream, gel, and ointment are available without a prescription. It is commonly used to treat skin inflammation and itching. It makes the bumps go away and is soothing. The other product you are using may be too harsh for you. You may have sensitive skin or an allergy. if it doesnt go away with the cream then talk to a dermatologist!
Reply:calamine lotion. they have a clear one out now. it will help the itch.
Reply:try calamine lotion, or cortaid or an anti itch cream---Could it possibly be Chicken Pox--might be poison ivy, OR an allergic reaction to soap or detergent or lotion that you are using (Have used anything new recently?)--If it doesn't go away get it looked at. Also try Oatmeal baths (you can get the packets in Heatlh and Beauty at your local store)--it helps relieve some itching
Reply:hi...if its itching and red then you might be having a reaction to something...have you been near any plants (like poison ivy). See your dermatologist quickly. Make sure you wash your hands after you itch b/c it might spread to other parts of the body. Try buying poison ivy ointment from ur local pharmacy. You can even show ur rash to the Pharmist thats working there.
Reply:From the sound of it, you may be sensitive to gluten. That means that you may have to restrict how much wheat you consume. Do an interent sear for Celiac's Disease and see if you fit the criteria.

Try to eliminate bread from your diet. My wife has a rash on her leg that flares up every so often. The allergist told her she's sensitive to gluten, but not bad enough to develop Celiac's Disease. Try cornbread instead of regular bread. If you must have bread, have as little as possible. You'll see that it clears up as your wheat consumption goes down.
Reply:It could be scabies or some other skin disease/condition. Go see a dermatologist ASAP.
Reply:clean and clear always worked for me
Reply:Maybe chicken poxs? I would go see a doctor if I where you maybe your having a allergic reaction to somthing. whatever u dont scratch it it makes it worse and can spread even more.
Reply:Gold Bond medicated cream works well, but you should get it checked out to see what's causing the rash - are you using a new laundry soap? Bath soap? Lotion? Fabric softener? Any change in what you've been using could be the culprit.
Reply:i hav the same problem.....

its just really really dry skin.....

try puttin gold bond ultimate healing lotion on it twice a day....

trust me it works

i hav it on the back of my arms and on my legs above my knees

dont scratch it...just put lotion on it whenever it itches!!

hope that helps!!

Extremely itchy burning skin, claw mark bubbles after I scratch it. What do I have?

For a couple months now, my face, scalp, neck back, chest, arms, and legs have been itching painfully at random times just about every day. Kind of feels like mosquito bites. After I scratch those areas it turns red and I get this burning sensation. Then these thin line lumps pop out that kind of look like claw mark scars, and I don't even scratch anywhere that hard. It's been gradually getting worse. Any ideas what might be causing this before I head to a dermatologist? I am 24 years old and never experienced this before in my life.

Extremely itchy burning skin, claw mark bubbles after I scratch it. What do I have?
could be an alergic reaction to something. maybe like a contact dermatitis. if i were you i would see a dermatoigist and tell him your symtoms. im really not sure what it is other than some sort of hives maybe. get in touch and get that checked out to be sure of what it is!!!
Reply:Depends on where it's at. If you are male and this condition is on your wiener, you may have the dreaded condition known as "The Creeping Crud".
Reply:that is definitely gonarrhea. you should get that checked. definitely don't sleep with anybody.
Reply:I can't remember what it's called, but my daughter has it also.

The doc. told her to take 1 clartin a day. This has helped.

Sometimes, stress will make it a lot worse. So take a clartin or other over the counter allergy med and relax.
Reply:OMG! You know I'm not all that familiar with white peoples skin. My ex husband was white and he was always getting strange things on his body sometimes looked like AIDS when I got nothing. I don't know what to tell you.

Itchy reddish skin after eating seafood. Any remedy?

I love seafood but its been a year since i noticed i cant eat them anymore. Whats the causes of it? :(

Itchy reddish skin after eating seafood. Any remedy?
you can develop allergies to food even after eating them for a long time...thought to be caused by the immune system having nothing better to do since we've started using anti-bacterial everything. you can either avoid seafood forever or see an allergist and maybe try taking benadryl before eating it.
Reply:Just Try and eat fresh seafood, that might be due to contaminated sea food
Reply:It sounds to me like you have developed a food allergy. Shrimp has a lot of iodine in it, and that may be what you're reacting to.
Reply:You're having an allergic reaction and should NOT eat it
Reply:well duh, you are probably developing an allergy to it. allergies are funny things. you can be fine with it one day, the next have a reaction. and sometimes is sudden and sometimes it comes on slowly. like yours. eventually you'll probably get to the point where you may go into anaphylatic shock. see your doc and get tested.
Reply:Talk to an alergist and ask if a perscription to allegra would help. It works for my wife.
Reply:I would go to your Doctor you may have an allergy to Shell Fish and you need to find out if this is the case since next time it could be much worse.
Reply:My brother gets like this sometimes from shellfish! He takes Benadryl beore he eats it
Reply:stop eaten seafood then

Itchy dog skin?

My dog has been driving me crazy lately by constantly itching and especially chewing on her paws. I've read up on the dermatitis and allergies and all that. I'm pretty sure it's seasonal allergies since it's just flared up now that we've gotten some rain the grass has grown back. But does anyone know if Nutro Lamb and Rice formula is a fairly hypoallergenic food? I know it could be a food allergy too so I'd like to rule that out as well. Otherwise, we'll try all the shampoo and vitamin remedies until her vet appointment. Thanks!

Itchy dog skin?
hi - firstly I sympathise, I have a dog with allergies and know how frustrating it is to work out what's causing it.

Has the dog seen a vet? The only way to work out if it's a food allergy is for the vet to start them on an exclusion diet. Unfortunately there's no such thing as a hypoallergenic diet, as it all depends on what the allergy is. For example, a dog with a chicken allergy will do well on lamb and rice based foods, but a dog (like mine) who has a rice allergy, will not do well on it.

Saying all that, symptoms in the feet and underside of a dog often (but not always) points to a contact allergy - often grass, but sometimes from the washing powders used on their beds, or other things they come into contact with.

I think the best step to take in this case is to book an appointment with the vet (as you have) to discuss working out what's causing the allergy (there are tests available) and then putting a treatment protocol into place.

In the meantime keeping a diary of when her symptoms are worst and what she's been in contact with and eating can often really help pinpoint what she's allergic to.

Best of luck - it's often a frustrating time until you work out what the cause is!
Reply:Try a shampoo that's moisturizing, maybe even use a conditioner??

Nutro is pretty good, but the allergies are usually from the additives and preservatives they put in the food. Try organic if you can.

As much of a pain in the butt as it may be, the easiest way to 'weed out' food allergies, is to cook for your dog. Start with plain chicken boiled, and brown rice. Keep her on that for about 6 weeks, then split 3/4 cooked 1/4 dry food for a week. See how she does with that, then try 1/2 %26amp; 1/2, eventually getting her 100% back on the dry food. Keep a very close eye on her (maybe even keep a diary) once you start putting her back on the dry food.
Reply:Many things are not answered by your question. How often do you bathe him/her? Dog skin needs all the oils that are produced in it and they are removed by constant bathing often times. Most people do not like dogs odor but it is a natural thing, there to protect them. DO have a vet look at your dog and make sure he is a skin specialist.
Reply:Well, first, I'd take her to a vet to rule out allergies. Most animal allergies are external, by the way, not usually food-related, and it's very hard to tell.

But for immediate relief there's a very cool pet itchy-skin spray by HealthyPetNet. I had some with me this week when I was visiting with a friend and she had big blotches from something she'd gotten into. Mind you, she's a human, not a dog.

All I had was this pet spray so we looked at the ingredients and they seemed like the kinds of holistic things you'd use for humans -- chamomile, etc. So we sprayed it on her.

It *immediately* knocked out her itching. Completely.

So I'd say, man, if it was made for dogs but works that well on humans, it's probably really does work on the dogs!

I think you can get some on the site below, go to the "animal" link.

Itchy flakey skin help?

i get dandruff very easily/all the time.. i have all over my back.. and when i work out my entire back and head begin to itch really bad all over.. does anyone know what this could be.. and a possibly solution?

Itchy flakey skin help?
Apply organic virgin coconut oil all over your body and scalp.

Do some reading and research on this oil. You'll be amazed!
Reply:I forget what they call it, but go see your doctor.
Reply:You might want to do a image search for psoriasis just to check and see if that could be it.
Reply:theres many strains and types of psoriasis, it could be a different strain than the one you researched.

I have psoriasis and i use Tgel shampoos and conditioners, for my skin i use exorex (which is tar based) or Daivobet which is also very good

hope this helps
Reply:A dermatologist would have to answer this one, but I wonder if maybe a skin fungle infection could cause this?

I once had a derm. advice me to use nizoral shampoo as a skin wash to deal with skin fungle infections.

At the least, it should help with the dandruff if it is being caused by fungle infections.

Or, if the dandruff really is psoriasis you can try Neutrogena t-gel shampoo (leave it on your head at least 20 minutes after you lather it in, it will help the medication in it work).

I once had a really bad case of psoriasis on my scalp and the doc prescribed a liquid steroid solution. That finally did the trick.
Reply:yuck it does not sound good----- advice from the doctor would be the best thing to do. Meanwhile do not use soap as there are liquid preparations for washing that will be easier on the skin. You may need to watch your diet as well as it could be an allergy to a food -----also improve your diet more milk products and more fruit and vegetables but it is important to follow doctor's advice as well as doing some of your own research so good luck....

Why is the new layer of my skin red, irritated and itchy?

my face was sunburnt and my cheeks were bright red for a few days, than it started to peel. now all the dead skin has peeled away but the new skin is still slightly red.. and it feels irritated and itchy? why is this.. and what can i do to fix this?

Why is the new layer of my skin red, irritated and itchy?
The sun dries your skin out so it is probably dry. Use a good moisturizer with sunscreen built in so this doesn't happen again.
Reply:Maybe u have eczema
Reply:put aloe vera on it
Reply:Because you sunburned several layers of your skin.

Wait for it all to die %26amp; peel off %26amp; then stay out of the sun so you don't get skin cancer.
Reply:put something to make ur skin feel better like aloe trust me i know what you feel i get sunburned easily
Reply:You got an awful bad burn, my darling. The best thing is to just let it run its course- your skin is very angry and trying to heal itself and sometimes it's not the easiest and prettiest solution we'd like! It's important that you aren't using any retinoids or other topical creams used for acne, wrinkles, etc. that could irritate this. Just wash with cool water and go without makeup for a while if you can. You can try aloe, very gentle moisturizers, and cortisone cream to respectively combat the heat, dryness, and itchiness. However, the simpler the better- and use a moisturizer with few ingredients and nothing added for acne treatment or wrinkle treatment, etc.

In the future, especially if you are applying medicated lotions to your face or taking pills that make your skin sensitive to light, you really should wear a moisturizer with at least spf15 every single day. If out in the sun for extended periods, apply at LEAST spf30 every 2-3 hours, more so if sweating or in the water. Find a large fashionable hat and wear that out to the beach. Really, it may not seem cool now, but you'll thank yourself when you are wrinkle free and skin cancer free as you get older!

Skin colored itchy bumps on my skin?

About three weeks ago I had a cold and started taking regular over the counter cold medicine during the day and at night. The cold lasted about 4-5 days, but after I noticed that I had these bumps on my chest. They are not visible, but I can feel them. If I scratch them long enough, they sort of swell as a bug bite would. They started appearing on my elbow area and upper arms, my back, my ankles, and the tops of my thighs. I have not been using any new detergents, nothing has changed in my house, I just recently vacuumed and flipped my mattress and changed my sheets which I do on a weekly basis.

I changed to Johnson and Johnson's head to toe baby wash for my hair and body just to see if that would make a difference, but I have been using it for over a week now and no results...it seems to be getting worse. It is extremely uncomfortable to the point where I have trouble sleeping. I go to bed itchy; wake up itchy; am itchy in class...I can't take it anymore!!

Anyone have any ideas?

Skin colored itchy bumps on my skin?
An itchy rash which appears after coldlike or flulike symptoms can be caused by Herpes zoster, which is the virus that causes chicken pox %26amp; shingles.

You should probably see a doctor to rule out this possibility... Herpes zoster is contagious and is no fun to have! It can be treated with acyclovir.

Those symptoms can also be caused by scabies, fleas or bed lice, which can persistently infest a person or their bedding, even despite fastidious bathing, hair washing, mattress flipping and sheet-changing. Such critters can only be eradicated with proper chemical pesticides! (Rid for lice, a flea-killing room fogger for fleas, a prescribed anti-scabies cream for scabies, etc.)

Temporary symptomatic relief for the itch can be had by taking benadryl and applying hydrocortisone cream to the bumps, but it is important to see a doctor and treat the cause of this, not just the symptoms.

The heat makes my skin really bumpy and itchy?

when it's hot at night, my skin gets really red with these little bumps and it itches, mostly on my wrist to elbow, inner thigh, and stomach and hips. but when i wake up it usually goes away. But it makes it really hard to sleep because i'm so itchy. does anyone know if i might have a disease or a cure for this? because i'm starting to get sick from not sleeping, and my skin is really red and you can see where i scratch.

The heat makes my skin really bumpy and itchy?
Oh my!

i have the same exact thing!

And my doctor told me its excema!]:

try a hydrocortizone cream 0.5% when it starts itching!
Reply:sounds to me like you are getting a heat rash at night. try some cortizone cream on the areas that itch, i know its hard to do but don't scratch it. scratching it will only make it worse. get a fan and set it up at the end of your bed so that the cool air is blowing on you (set it on a table or dresser if you have to). the cortizone cream will help it to stop itching. You may also want to take a little benadryl before bed to help the itching and redness and it will help you to sleep better. I get heat rashes all the time. Good luck to you. I hope that you feel better soon.
Reply:i have this also occasionally. I find that sleeping with a fan and or above your sheets and covers helps to reduce the chance of the rash. also you can try putting cool washcloths when it starts to itch. also creams work but can make it worse if they have alcohol.

Oily skin, but flaky and itchy?

Recently the weather has been dry and at first it started with a itchy rash around the eyes. Now my whole face is flaky when I rub it and it itches a little bit in random areas. This never happened to me before in the dry season and also in dryer places. I already live in a place that's considered "humid". It's also weird to see that I have such oily skin but it's still flaking? I put moisturizer but my face still itches and flakes if i rub it. Anyone know the problem?

Oily skin, but flaky and itchy?
You need to take a vitamin b complex. I had this problem around my chin area and believe it or not a dentist told me to take vitamin b complex and it went away. I stopped taking it for awhile one time and it came back and when I started taking the vitamin b complex again it went away. You said you have oily skin, what about acne, is that a problem too? Anyway, you can try taking zinc along with the vitamin b complex, that should help. I was having break outs; but since I take zinc I don't have that problem anymore. Don't stop moisterizing, I know that sounds like it will only worsen the problem ;but actually it is just the opposite. When we don't moisterize it causes our oil glands to become over active to compensate for the moister loss after washing or bathing. I have researched all of this and it works. So give it try, besides it is not near as costly as all the medicines a dermatologist would precribe to you.
Reply:Even oily skin needs a moisturizer, but choose a light, watery fluid; this will be enough for your skin. Allow the moisturizer to sink in well and then absorb the excess with a tissue to prevent shine.check out http://tipsfromruby-skincare.blogspot.co...
