What makes our skin itchy?
dryness, infection, or a bug bite
Reply:winter.
Reply:the thing that makes ur skin itchy is ur clothes
Reply:Like snakes, we are constantly shedding skin. Where did you think some of that dust comes from? Anyway, when the skin begins to loosen, you feel a tingling sensation, and you are automatically forced to scratch it. And so it is the proverbial itch! Note: I'm talking about the epidermis (first layer) of skin.

Other times, an outside agent may cause this sensation. Such things as bug bites and chicken pox cause itching because they are irritating the skin, and the only messages our brains can get to us to soothe this irritation is by scratching to get rid of the itch.

Why is my skin itchy after a massage?

Sometimes it just gets your blood flowing toward the surface of your skin you are starting to get some circulation back and it will itch, but for only for a little while.

Why is my skin itchy after a massage?
Maybe you got an allergy from the substances used for the massage.

I have athletes foot and I was wondering some thing I could do with my itchy dead skin around my toes?

the skin comes off in large flakes and I was wondering if I should mix the skin in a casserole for guests?. bake the skin in a cake, or just put it all in a cereal box and shake it up

I have athletes foot and I was wondering some thing I could do with my itchy dead skin around my toes?
I would suggest serving it with a side of puss.. that would be nice!
Reply:Consider placing it directly in your bed to freshen the sheets. This is always nice.
Reply:I suggest adding to your own cereal. You may get some extra protein.
Reply:save it for a snack later on
Reply:Well first you have to get rid of the Athletes Foot. This caused by a fungus.Put Listerine on your feet 3 X's a day and spray it in your all your shoes. As for the flaky skin, just let it fall off. If you pull it it off, it might pull in the quick which will bleed and hurt badly!! The Listerine really works. Good Luck...........

I am African American and I have been experiencing dry. flaky, itchy , dull skin on my face only, what is it?

I live in a humid climate ( louisiana) and I use well water to bathe and cook with could that be the problem or an allergy. I usally have great skin, but this is becoming a problem. Also my skin burns all of the time. This is only affecting my face. I use cleansers that claim sensitvity, I use Eucerin calming cream, but nothing is helping and my doctor is a quack that told me that I probably have an allergy, but I would just have to live with it.

I am African American and I have been experiencing dry. flaky, itchy , dull skin on my face only, what is it?
could be eczema
Reply:As the previous poster indicated, you might have eczema. And your doctor may also be correct in that you may have an allergy. There are tests that you can take to find out what you may be allergic to, so press on even if you have to consult with another doctor. You may be allergic to products that are Petroleum %26amp; mineral oil based, and I suggest you try moisturizers such as olive oil, aloe vera, and shea butter. See www.Carolsdaughter.com for alternatives. Also please try boiling and filtering your water before drinking and using it on your body. Hope it works.

Try a different food, maybe something grainless because it could be allergies. Maybe get a second vet opinion?
Reply:It sounds like he has a food intolerance, take him off all canned and dried food and introduce a raw food diet such as bravo foods.(USA)or prizechoice foods for (UK)

Wash him in a oatmeal based shampoo and use a neem oil cream for his itchy skin.

Dont use any air fresheners or sprays on him or near him, give him two omega 3,6,9 tablets daily for rest of his life introduce mashed potatoes and green beans into his diet.

Within two to four weeks his problems will be resolved .

What are these itchy bumps on my skin?

I've been getting these itchy bumps on my skin. It appears randomly on any part of my body then disappears in a couple hours but then reappears. It also comes in different sizes. The worst is on my hands and feet. Its been like this since the end of the summer and I can't get rid of it.

What are these itchy bumps on my skin?
sounds like hives, your touching or eating something your allergic to if it is.
Reply:i have the same problem

im trying to look for answer to.

What are these itchy bumps on my skin?

For the last few weeks, itchy, small bumps have been appearing on my skin. They each last a day or two, and then they disappear, and then others pop up elsewhere. Although a few have been reddish, some don't have color. It started on my butt, but my doctor said I didn't have genital herpes, and since my appointment, I've gotten about a dozen or so more. I have a few on my arms, I've had a couple on my torso, and some on my legs and butt. I don't consume anything regularly enough to be having a constant allergic reaction, and I've changed detergents and stuff, but it hasn't changed. I've had poison ivy before, and the bumps look like individual poison ivy bumps. I don't know what to do :( Please help me!

What are these itchy bumps on my skin?
Check around your home for bugs like bedbugs or fleas. Both bedbugs and fleas leave blackish droppings so look for those around your bed and your sofa. Think about where you were right before you got the bumps - someone else may have the bug problem.

You could also be having some contact dermatitis or some other skin issue. If I were you, I'd vacuum my bed, pillows, mattress, box spring, carpet and any other upholstery in your house to help get rid of any allergens. I would also wash all of the blankets and covers on your bed and throw your pillows in the dryer for a few minutes. My husband reacts to cat hair on his (and the cat's) favorite blanket by getting small itchy red bumps all over his back.

One more thought, have you been around any wood burning fireplaces? Or any dogs/cats that might have been running around outside through the bushes. You can get poison ivy from your friendly family pet and from cut firewood. See a dermatologist if none of the suggestions help. Use some cortisone cream to help with the itch - benedryl cream is also very good.
Reply:You could have a food allergy or some form of contact dermatitis.
Reply:cooties
Reply:It sounds like hives, you've probably become allergic to something previously quite tolerable, like dust mites, or the central heating. Get some anti-histhamines from the chemist, and see a doctor again if you still have it after a week on them.

Why the skin around my nose is so itchy?

I've taken the claritin and applied anti-itch cream but still no help. It has been 4 days already, at first I thought I got it from my flowers but inside of my nose is not itchy just outside the skin. The problem is, now is spreading to my eyes and ears area is getting itchy, too. Do you know why is that and what can I do about it? I couldn't sleep last night because of it...

Why the skin around my nose is so itchy?
Hmmm... either someone is talking about you (a lot!), or you're allergic to something. Probably something you're getting on your hands and then spreading to your face by touching it. (This then creates a kind of vicious cycle, as your face itches, so you touch it more, spreading more of the allergen.)

My advice would be to try to identify anything new that you've been handling (particularly animals or plants), and to wash your hands and face frequently, particularly at the first sign of any itching. If that clears it up, then it's definitely something you're touching and getting on your face. If not, then it would be something more subtle, probably internal, and possibly serious, so have it looked at.
Reply:am not sure but just continue taking claritin or piroton and use savlon and if it doest work go to doctors. they will give u a cream. x

How do you cure very dry itchy winter skin?

My husband and I are suffering from very dry winter skin that makes us itch constantly. We've tried everything that products have to offer for this condition, but so far nothing has seemed to work and we are at our wits end with the itching. Can Anybody help us?

How do you cure very dry itchy winter skin?
DRY SKIN: Combine 1 cup oatmeal, 1 cup warm water, 1 Tbls. vanilla extract, and 1/2 cup baking soda in a blender or food processor until you have a smooth paste. Pour this paste under the running water while drawing the bath. Very soothing to dry, itchy skin.

Ultimate Dry Skin Treatment

# Of Applications: 1

Prep. Time: 0:25

2 Tbls. real mayonnaise

1 tsp. baby oil

-Combine both ingredients.

-Smooth onto face, neck, rough elbows and knees, or anywhere you need it.

-Leave on for 20 minutes.

-Rinse thoroughly with tepid water.
Reply:go to a dermatologist
Reply:My skin also goes through this every winter. First, I sleep with a vaporizer on to get some moisture in my bedroom while I sleep. I take a shower every morning with lukewarm water and oatmeal liquid soap. Immediately after I dry, I put on oatmeal lotion. On tough days, I also put on Gold Bond anti-itch powder. On the weekends, I take an oatmeal bath for about 10 minutes, dry, and oatmeal lotion. I put this lotion on twice a day when it's bad. Occasionally I supplement by putting on baby oil after a shower and before I dry. The drying takes off most of the oil, but enough is left to keep some moisture in. Then moisturize.

It stinks to itch all winter. I hope this helps you.
Reply:you can either go to a dermatologist or buy a lotion thats specialized for dry itchy skin
Reply:Olay in-shower body lotion works wonders!

Anyone know any treatments for severely itchy dry skin for infants?

have tried hydrocortisone cream, benadryl itch cream, oatmeal bath and calamine lotion in addition to keeping her skin moisturized.

Anyone know any treatments for severely itchy dry skin for infants?
Go find you a thick, greasy lotion like Aveeno or Eucerin. Keep it slathered on.... Bathe the baby, pat it dry with a clean towel and slather on the thick lotion. This will help lock in the moisture. Be cautious with hydrocortisone cream - it can thin the skin, especially on the face. Benadryl itch cream doesn't do much for babies in my experience.
Reply:Take her to see a dermatologist.
Reply:Stay away from "Ivory" products, as they are not nearly as delicate as advertised. Use any of the "sensitive" versions of soap (I prefer those with Aloe for my family's dry skin), rinse it completely, and apply a good moisturizer (or, if there is an obvious rash, Penatin Cream.)

I shuddered when I read that you used hydrocortisone cream on an infant, and would advise against it's use on youngsters. Have you tried a baking soda paste? (Mix just enough water into baking soda to make it spreadable, and apply liberally.)

If it is more serious than you make it sound here, have a Pediatrician look at your child.
Reply:Um baby oil maybe?
Reply:My son has baby eczema (makes patches of his skin dry, itchy and rough) I took him to the doc and she recommended unscented cetaphil lotion instead of baby lotion. Works great.. Also we use unscented soaps and shampoos which also seemed to help.

Good luck!
Reply:Get a really thick lotion like Lubriderm. When you get them out of the bath, don't dry them all the way. Apply the lotion while they are still damp.
Reply:My sisters childern suffered badly with itchy skin , she found that pinetarsel, or q.v helped it goes into the bath, and one called aquerus..thats like a moisterizer instead of using a soap....my nephew was so bad that he would cry for hours itching like crazy, she found aquerus the best one to date, i might also reccomend, and you might already know this, not to ever use soap as it is an irritant to the skin...hope that helps a little!
Reply:For infants , take complete care of their skin and organs. For good guidance refer the site as below.
Reply:i think your baby is suffering from contact dematitis, first of all u have to avoid all cosmetics like baby soap, baby oil.Secondily, when u bathe your baby, please avoid wrapping, rubbing, keep baby wet and than use vaseline or some other wett cream, u definitly get results.Although, sometimes we can use steroids also and it has definitly good results, but depends on clinical cond. of patient.
Reply:If it's dry and itchy, it could be eczema. I suggest taking the person to a dermatologist to seek the best treatment.

Best of luck

P.S. I've suffered from severe eczema for 2 years now.

How do I soothe this winter itchy dry skin?

Every winter it's the same... my skin gets so dry it looks like it's cracking! I've tried every lotion out there (so it seems). Any suggested remedies?

How do I soothe this winter itchy dry skin?
find a good moisturizer and use it frequently.

i suggest a cream for you.

jergens and nivea make good resonably priced moisturisers.

try to get one without alpha hydroxy acids. they may irritate your exrta dry skin.

a very good way to trap moisture on the skin:

after your bath or shower pat yourself dry.

while still damp apply the moisturizer.

i like nivea the best.

if you are excessively dry, you cab rub on vaseline and cover your feet in socks and wear cotton clothes over the vaseline while you sleep.

another remedy is to use rice bran oil, olive oil, or sesame oil to trap moisture on your skin instead of the vaseline.

a day cream (i suggest a cream since you say lotions do not help) should be applied at least four times during the day.

if you can't stand to be slimey (and the vaseline might make you fel that way) prepare a nice warm tub of water.

soak some oatmeal in water to soften it up then add it to the bath.

you can also add a 1/2 c of mineral oil (baby oil) to the bath to leave a water loss barier when you step out of the tub.

soak for 20 minutes.

gently buff your skin with a towel then apply a thin film of a light lotion but make sure that shea butter is one of the ingredients.

Aveeno makes an excellent oatmeal lotion for the skin.

try using super fatted soaps or glycerin soaps or oatmeal soaps. they make you itch less.

cleansing cream is GREAT. (jergens is my favorite, i like the vanilla-almond fragrance) you can slather it on all over your face and body at night the shower it off in the morning. it leaves you soft and moisturised and gets out zits and black heads and dirt on your face.

be prepared to change the bed often %26lt;hee hee%26gt;.

what works for one person does not always work for another.

but it is known that oatmeal perparations soothe itchy skin. and keeping it moisturised keeps it healthier, it will not crack, and also less itchy.

good luck
Reply:Skin car.
Reply:um... the best thing to is to wet your skin (like when u take a bath) and then u appy winter mouserisers (cocoa and shea butter work best). For your hands, before bed, add lotion and wear gloves to sleep. (U can do the same for your feet, just use wool socks).
Reply:shea butter baby
Reply:If you use moisturing (did i spell that rite?)lotion every nite.
Reply:oitment.....or take long long baths....and it feels good with long baths anyway!
Reply:u use lotion
Reply:You do not have a humidifer I assume. It would probably help. My neighbor uses Calgon bath oil beads and soaks in it. I have not had the prob. since getting a humidifer. Usual summer house humidity is 60-80%, winter house humidity is as low as 10%.
Reply:Cocoa butter body wash with cocoa butter lotion.
Reply:use a lofa to remove the top dry skin first. Shower is best so you don't leave a ring. Then wash with a moisturizing soap such as dove. After you bath, use ery sparingly a bit of lotion. Over doing the lotion can cause your pores to seal up and dry out again. Sleep on satan sheets in the nude. Cotton will suck the moisture from your body

German Sheperd puppy has very itchy , dry skin......?

My GSD is 4 and half months old. the vet told me last visit that he has dry skin...my puppy scratches so much he has like little scabs on his back. I called the vet just the other day and asked them what could I do for him, but they just tried to sell my their products...not saying that they wouldnt work, but surely there are some things out there that are inexpensive and work just as well, isnt there? Does anyone have any idea what to do for him? I feed him Purina Beneful Puppy Chow, and I bath him with sergants or hartz brand bath with oatmeal once or twice a month..... Any ideas?????

German Sheperd puppy has very itchy , dry skin......?
When my German Shepard was a puppy, she had this problem as well. Be careful when using Hartz brands, shampoo because they can be very harsh on the skin and can dry the skin very quickly. It can cause rashes on their skin b/c I think in my opinion, there formula is too strong for dogs. Maybe use baby shampoo to wash your puppy...it has a gentler formula than those pet store brand shampoos. For the dry skin, try brushing your puppy with a puppy brush at least 5 minitues per day. This will help the skin release their natural skin oils that will help lubricate the skin. This helped my dog and you usually see results in a week or two. Hope this helps.
Reply:better food for starters-solid gold brand is a good one .dogs only need one bath a month unless he gets into something.try putting a teaspoon of canola oil on his food to help his skin.also brush him once a day to help remove the dead skin cells.
Reply:Well the first thing I would do is put him om a premium food .

If you go to www.dogfoodanalysis.com you will find several high rated foods. Allergies to grains can cause dry coat and intense itching . Beneful is on of the poorest rated foods out there. Definitely get him off that.

Next go to your own shampoo aisle and pick up a good dandruff shampoo. I prefer Nizoral which is more expensive but you could also use one of the store brands that are similar to Head and Shoulders. When I use Nizoral I do a prebath with a cheaper shampoo and give only a light rinse. The cheaper shampoo breaks down the water resitance of the coat allowing you to use less Nizoral. Check the ingredients for the other shampoos. The store brands have the same concentration of active ingredients and are much cheaper. Give him a bath and allow the shampoo to sit for 3-4 minutes before rinsing. Do not use any conditioners. Check your dogs skin and coat over the next week. If it seems to be improving I would repat this in 7-10 days.

He could also have Dandruff mites which are easily destroyed with a good flea and tick shampoo. I like Zodiac shampoos which also leave the coat in lovely condition. That would be my next step. It can be combined with the other.

Add Omega 3 to your dogs diet. You can feed oily fish such a salmon, sardines, or mackerel or you can get capsules in the Vitamin aisle of your drug store. I hide those in pate like liver sausage.

GSD are also susceptible to an hereditary condition called EPI which is a pancreatic enzyme deficiency. One of its symptoms would be similar to what you describe but it has other dramtic symptoms too such a coat loss, lack of weight gain or loss, and diarhhea. It can be treated but it is a lifelong condition.

My last suggestion which should probably have been the first...have you contacted your breeder? Most breeders are a wealth of information and its free. They often know more than the vets because they are breed specific.

Good luck with your puppy.
Reply:wash her with lotion soap next time
Reply:The dry skin could be an allergy problem, possibly to the food or shampoo, or a sensitivity issue to the shampoos (less severe).

First of all I would start changing him over to a better, higher quality and more nutritious dog food. One designed for dogs with allergies or sensitive skin would be much better for him. You can find comparisons and analysis of the best dog foods on the market here http://www.the-puppy-dog-place.com/dog-f... and read more about dog food allergies (and find good food for sensitive dogs too) here http://www.the-puppy-dog-place.com/dog-f...

Secondly, there are lots of products that you can use to reduce the itchiness and relieve your pups discomfort. There are hydrocortisone sprays and shampoos, hypoallergenic shampoos and natural products and even supplements that you can add to your pups diet to improve his skin/coat condition and boost his immune system (which will reduce the incidence of skin problems.)

This is a pretty common problem, and with the right treatment can be eliminated fairly quickly. You can find free advice, tips and information on the remedies, natural products etc. that can relieve canine skin allergies at the url below.

Best of luck.

Secondly, there are
Reply:bathe him less. a dog bred for water like a labrador can handle being bathed because their coats are meant to regenerate the oils that protect their skin. with GSD's, they weren't bred for water, so their skin can't regenerate the oils that keep the skin and coat healthy. even if it means he stinks more, bathe him less and it should help with the itching.

you could try bathing him with aloe vera shampoos. that should help with the itching, which will get him to stop scratching so his skin will have a chance to heal.

be careful about what you put on him, some products affect dogs differently than they would for a human. i would go the safe route and get the stuff from the vet. if the vet stuff is 25 dollars and the stuff at walmart is 5 dollars, obviously there's something chemically different. i work at a vet and i've seen many animals come in who's owners had used the 'cheap' stuff, and the poor animals were the ones to suffer the seizures.
Reply:my friend has a german shepherd too, and he is 3yrs old and he is allergic to like everything!!! i cian only think of dust. but he has dry skin and scabs and is scratching his body like every second! and he use to get a shot every other day that cost $500 for each shot! crazy huh?

allergic to things!
Reply:The shampoo you are using is GREAT! I think it is a good idea to use something with oatmeal in it! However, My dog went through the same thing a while back, and because he had sores too, I had to get a shampoo that was medicated, just until the sores actually healed!! I also had to start using Fish Oil Vitamins (OMEGA-3 FATTY ACIDS), This made all the difference, It totally cured my dogs Itchy, dry, scabby skin! It also made his coat so shiny and soft (He is a Boxer and had coarse brittle hair, NOT ANYMORE!)! This vitamin is also good for their heart and vascular system!! The pill is rather large, I use a toothpick and poke a whole in the end of the pill and squeeze the oil out onto a treat, and he eats it up!! It worked so well, I started giving it to all my dogs, the vitamins are very inexpensive, I can get the bottle of vitamins at my local everything is $1.00 store!! I hope this helps your babe out, I know how miserable they are when they are so itchy!!
Reply:Hello. Please what ever you do, do not use Hartz or Sergants shampoo! I used it on my Great Dane puppy and he had an allergic reaction. After a $161 dollar vet bill and a sick puppy I learned that other pet owners had shared my same fate. Not every dog is affected in this way, but it is better to be safe than sorry. Certainly get an oatmeal shampoo and honestly getting it from the vet isn't that much more expensive than a store brand; our beloved pets are worth it. Take care.

Will having excess iron in your water make your skin dry and itchy?

We have well water and lately notice the water is getting rusty colored and my skin and head are more dry and itchy than usual. Is there a connection?

Will having excess iron in your water make your skin dry and itchy?
hard water can cause itchy skin. Try adding two two table spoons of vinegar to a bath and see if this helps.

iron deficiency in your blood and allergies are just a few other causes.

Most water companies offer testing of your water for items such as chlorine level, iron, etc. Check them out and see if they can examine a sample of you water.
Reply:The your water may be already contaminated by rust, so you should stop using it. Try asking your health care center about it. It may not only cause you dry skin but also further health problems. Aside from this, there are also other causes of dry skin.

Hands - dry, itchy, winter skin rash?

this winter is wicked cold and my hands have this weird rash around my knuckles and joints that's BRIGHT red and it burns when i put lotion on that eventually subsides.....is this just really bad winter skin? anybody with the same thing? lotion suggestions? i have tried everything..

Hands - dry, itchy, winter skin rash?
Nothing beats Corn Huskers. You can find it at most drug stores. It's been around for decades. My granny told me about it. It doesn't smell too bad. It doesn't sting and it leaves no greasy feeling. It's worth having around. When your hands get dry... it works wonders.
Reply:Moisturizer
Reply:I had the same thing,Olive oil helped ,vaseline is a good choice too.
Reply:Just put on the best lotion you've got. It will work even if it burns keep your mind off of it because the burn means it's working.
Reply:GET AVEENO
Reply:Oh my god my aunt had the same thing, she used golden brown lotion midicated i think, she said it totally worked.
Reply:my mom has the same problem, and we live in houston (which technically doesn't really even have a winter). she ends up wearing wool/leather gloves ALL the time (even in the house) and applying lotion several times every day. i think she uses the brand keri.

hope this helps!
Reply:Aveeno hand lotion with oatmeal extracts has no fragrance and works well. The best thing you can do is rub vaseline on your hands and then slip a sock over each hand and sleep with it overnight. Just make sure the vaseline is non-scented petroleum jelly and you are good to go.
Reply:dont wash them.

well, yah, after the bathroom, and all that, but try to do it VERY LITTLE.

i used to have an OCD where i thought i had germs on me all the time, so i would wash my hands 24/7, and i got the SAME THING [good 2 no that im not the only 1.]

i tried evry thing, but all you really have to do is quit washing and using lotion, and start leaving them to naturally heal with time.
Reply:try vitamin e cream or banan boat's after sun lotion. you need something that will help your skin heal and kee it moist. apply either of these things as often as possible

At night you can apply a thick layer of moisturizer, aquaphor ointment will help them heal overnight, but it's greasy so you'll need to wear old socks or white cotton gloves on your hands to keep the ointment on your hands and of your sheets.

DONT use anything like purell and keep handwashing to a minimum
Reply:try aveno or anything with oatmeal in it. Also you can rub Vaseline or bacitracin ointment on your hands, it will be greasy at first but it will be absorbed into your hands. If that doesn't work go see a dermatologist.
Reply:try using gold bond ultimate healing with aloe. it dosnt have any of the purfumes that dry out your skin like other lotions do. it helped with my dry skin and a former co-workers dry, cracked, bleeding skin(he was a dishwasher at the time). check it out. its about $6 here in alaska at carr's(safeway) for a tube that is 5.5oz
Reply:Avon had a lotion that forms a barrier to water that is good, but I can't remember the name of it. I also use Working Hands for my hands in the winter as they tend to crack at the corners of the nails. With you having your hands in water all the time it's going to be very difficult to keep anything on the hands long enough to heal. Make sure you put it on before bedtime to give it at least that long to heal.
Reply:I know this sounds crazy, but honey is great for this. Stand over a sink, pour it all over your hands and rub for 5 minutes. Follow up with a great lotion. Voila...soft hands.
Reply:Goldbond Ultimate medicated lotion works the best.

Red,blotchy,itchy (hand) skin?

my hands have red, blotchy spots on them plus they kinda burn right now. I'm not sure what the cause of it is. I have extremely dry (hand) skin and I usually put on hand cream every night, but I am in another state right now without my hand cream and haven't been putting anything on them for three nights now. Am I allergic to something like handsoap? or is it just the cold weather here?

Red,blotchy,itchy (hand) skin?
Could be an allergic reaction, are you using anything different?

I know this sounds yucky, but try slathering mayo on them and leaving it on for as long as you can stand it. You could also do the cotton gloves and vaseline thing. As a last resort, when you get out of the shower and your skin is still damp, use just a bit of regular vegetable oil on them. These are some tricks I've used over the years - they're easy, and I've had good results.
Reply:mine get like that in the winter..feels chapped and hurts, its from the cold air .be sure and keep putting plenty of thick hand cream on them and wear gloves and dry completely after washing before you go out
Reply:your hands are chapped just like your lips can get chapped try lanoline cream either way if it is bad your dr. can prescribe somethin try moisturizing creams and gloves
Reply:Try this...every once in awhile i get a pair of plain old cotton gloves...like the cheap winter ones they sell everywhere. Then i put a thick layer of Vaseline on my hands and rub it in for a few minutes then put the gloves on and go to sleep. When you wake up, your hands will feel awesome. You can do this on your feet also.

You could even wrap your fingertips in saran wrap before you put the gloves on and you will have beautiful cuticles.

Try this...it works,
Reply:It may just be a reaction to the weather, but, as eczema is called "the itch that rashes," it may be hand eczema.

Skin with eczema is sensitive to most any change, and lots and lots of chemicals, including those in many hand lotions. If the problem persists, switch to Eucerin cream--very mild and recommended by dermatologists--and try over-the-counter steroid cream or ointment. The ointment, while greasy, has fewer chemicals that might make things worse.

If the itch is intense, and you are scratching or rubbing a lot, 25 mgs. of diphenhydramine (Benadryl or equivalent) and running cool water over the affected area , followed by moisturizer, may help a lot.

If you have a history of eczema in childhood, or a family history of asthma or eczema, it is likely that this is more than just a contact dermatitis or a reaction to the weather.

My 8 Month Old kid skin allergy come and go but not itchy?

I got a kid who's 8 month old now. I think he had food allergy because everytime he eats red spot, not exactly red but like mosquito bites appear everywhere, arms, legs, face, etc.

His allergy appeared when he was around 6 month old and started to introduce solid food. and changed his milk (same brand) to 6 mos onwards. Its a hypoallgergenic brand.

We can't seem to find whats the cause of the allergy, we stopped feeding him solid food for one week and still some of the red spots still appear. Fed him yesterday after one week with potatoes and BOOM! lots of it appear. Before potatoes were ok with him. I suspect the milk is the culprit but its the same brand we give him since he was one day old.

His allergy is not life threathening, just red spots appear around him, give him zyrtec (antihistamine) and he'll be fine. and his skin is not itchy. just red.

Anyone can help me?

My 8 Month Old kid skin allergy come and go but not itchy?
at 8 months old a baby can't always tell you if they are itchy and while it doesn't seem life threatening now repeated exposure can lead to the allergies getting much worse. Is he on Zyrtec everyday? You have to do a process of elimanation and find out what might be causing it but it could also be multiple things causing it. My 2 year old is allergic to peanuts but he also started breaking out with hives the other day and he hadn't had exposure to any peanuts so that means he has another allergy so we are trying to figure out the trigger. Some babies have several allergies making it hard to pinpoint which one is causing the reaction. Also babies can develop allergies after repeated exposure to things so maybe your little one was having a reaction you didn't notice and it finally got bad enough to notice. You will probably have to keep a log like i do of what you feed your baby and when and if you notice any reactions (some reactions can take 24-48 hrs to appear).
Reply:you didn't say what kinds of milk you were giving him, soybean milk or form now theyhave. i was on soybean milk and could barely have that .all 4 of my children are allergy to milk . time to go the Dr. a call. believe me it can be serious later. i was older and found out i was allergy to a lot of foods and 3 years old when they found out why i was so sick all the time and hospital visits i could i couldn't digest fiber at all and it was serious very serious. if are using zyrtec its allergy to something your giving him . my daughter son was using that and i keep telling her it was the milk sure enough it was. the dr keep telling her what i had wrong didn't effect him, sometime family problems do get passed on. just play it safe and make a dr visit with a baby dr. also write down everything you give him and bath the baby in to what soap you wash the clothes in when you go to the dr. by the time you get it you also everything you do in the house cleaning what you use. just that one in case he's crawling. good luck
Reply:Immediately change hew milk. Try Fresh milk with 40-50% water mixing. Alergy will cover with age. Just use as solid food Half fried egg, Banana, Custard, Rice, etc. Don't use High calories food for baby.

Use EVIL Syrup three times a day. Use for one week

Always use cotton dress for baby no wool nothing else.

This type of allergy usually happen in babies less than 2-3 years. Don't wrap baby in extra cloth, mean baby shouldn't be extra warm. That is also cause. This type of allergy on all skin is due to food only. He has no skin problem.

I have it year round so its not ordinary dry winter skin. Its red and very noticeable.

Dry, itchy, flaky skin under nose - what is it and how can I get rid of it?
It's just shedding skin; what you need to do is get an exfoliate (a facial Scrub to remove the dead skin Around you nose. If you want you can make your own by using sugar of salt . Try it it really works. Once you do this I would suggest getting a moisturizer

Reply:it sound like psoriasis I would make an appoint with a dermatologist. or your doctor...... until then get some A%26amp;D oinment . you will find it in the baby section in your store. apply it at night liberly. this stuff really works wonders.

Dry, itchy, flaky skin under nose - how do I get rid of it?
I have had this problem myself. I was told by a pharmacist I know to use hydrocortisone cream. Its not so oily that it will cause clogged pores, but moisturizes well. I hope this helps. Also try to avoid wiping under your nose with your fingers and blow your nose when its runny and use some cream after. This really worked for me. Good luck.
Reply:it sounds like bacteria..keep it clean..use vaseline at night..just a little...keep you hands away from it Report It

Reply:Try a rich moisturizer, or use a little vasoline on that area at night( not too much). I'm not sure what your 'beauty ritual' is, but if you wash your face with a strong soap, or if you tend to peel, this could help. I have the same type of problem, and this helps me.
Reply:Try using a moisturizer on the area on a daily basis. For example, Vaseline.

If you wipe your nose a lot maybe you should try changing into a softer tissue?
Reply:extreme moisturizer, and if that doesnt work, see a dermatologist and they may say that you have some kind of rash. Or they may give you some cream that will help it.
Reply:chpstick, lotion, Mousturizers and you should probably go to the doctor and they might give you a steriod or a topical cream to use.
Reply:use a toner after u wash your face. it hydrates your skin and ever since i started using one my face it has never been dry. try one of the clinque toners they have specific kinds to match your particular skin needs
Reply:My friend had similar problem it was ECZEMA.... go to yur doc.. they can prescribe stuff to control it
Reply:before bed daily use a moisturizer with natural vitamin e in it. it will help to heal the skin.
Reply:clinque moisturizer works very well
Reply:Put E45 Cream on you sore skin. When I get a cold my nose goes like that nd s domy cheeks put some e45 on it and it will stop. ts a special cream for skin conditions!
Reply:Often that can be caused by snorting coke, so I would recommend quitting if that's the case.

Itchy flaky skin in my ears?

Started having this problem about a year or so ago - it's really quite irritating! Finally got it looked at about 2-3 months ago and was prescribed stronger hydrocortizone cream (since the OTC stuff was too weak) and told to apply it every day. A few months on and it's still no better. After a few days of application it seems to calm down, but after 2-3 days of not using the cream it flares up again!

Just wondering if it's one of those things which will eventually go away, or am I going to have to swab white goo in my ears every day for the rest of my life to keep it under control?!

I get a bit of dry skin on my elbows but that's easily remedied with a body scrub and moisturiser and I don't suffer with ecszma anywhere on my body - just seems to be in my ears and it's driving me nuts!

Itchy flaky skin in my ears?
This is quite a common problem, and can be difficult to eradicate. Sometimes it is related to psoriasis, rather than eczema, and using creams directed more for psoriasis - not steroid creams - can sometimes help.

However, funnily as it may sound, it may be related to your digestion.

Many of us build up the wrong sort of bacteria in the bowel, and it can help by redressing the balance. These popular bio-yoghurts can help, but they may also hinder as they contain sugar and fruit that encourages the wrong bacteria to grow. The best option is either live natural yoghurt, or go for a supplement containing Acidophilus (the good bacteria) together with other elements to help the good bacteria thrive.

You have nothing to lose if you try, and it would be great to hear that your ears clear up by this change in diet - let us know!
Reply:Try changing shampoos and having showers instead of baths. Worked for me!!
Reply:it might have to do with the sun also like your getting sun burned on your ears. try putting on an spf and then your cream.
Reply:throughout my life, my eczema has localized itself in different places. when i was 5, it was only atop my scalp. there was a time when it was only inside and around my ears, too. right now, it's only around my elbows and lower legs. there was a time when it was all over my body.

it has come and gone; in fact i went 4 solid years without it being noticeable and i had basically no irritation whatsoever.

ive found that it becomes less severe if i keep steady sleeping and eating habits, strangely enough. i think that it is because it stabilizes my immune system (eczema is classified as an autoimmune disease.) i hope this helps somewhat.
Reply:Sorry to hear that you are suffering in this way. Just use as little of the ointment as you have to and search the web - you may come across a 'cure!'

I have suffered exactly the same way for 15 years! Having to wear a hearing aid adds to the problem. Just--- grin and bear it --- you could be suffering from much worse things!!!
Reply:I have this problem too! It's horrible. And my ears get really full of wax and it can hurt sometimes too.

I think that having a good diet helps and also I don't think that the steroid creams you get given are a good thing because they are not dealing with the root of the problem, the cause of the problem, they only try to cure it once the problem is there, and you become immune to them over time I think.

I am afraid I dont know a really way to treat or prevent it - I wish I did but otherwise it might be something you just have to live with, like I do :(

Good luck x
Reply:did you ever have your ears flushed out with one of those bulb looking things "Ear Syringe Ball" maybe the condition is caused by something further in your ear and needs to be flushed out once in a while.

and if the ear stuff is from the same fungus that causes dandruff, maybe pouring a cap full of hydrogen peroxide in the ear and letting it loosen any gunk built up in the ear cavity

Then use the ear ball thing to flush out whatever is in there

I am obviously not a physician, so my suggestions should be discussed with an actual medically trained individual

good luck

Itchy, peeling skin, & red and i'm clueless?

to what's going on with my vagina!

i am a virgin.

here's what i have going on with it:

* itching like crazy (there is a tear in the skin because i've scratched so much)

* dead skin is peeling off???? (that can't be normal)

* the area is red and puffy (almost like a sunburn, but it isn't sensitive like a sunburn, and i haven't been exposed there)

- i also want to know if this is normal about my vagina...

i have a very regular heavy discharge. it comes daily, and it smells pretty sour and bad. the color is an off white/yellow even when it's not dry.

again... i've never had sex.

never really done anything in a sexual manner.

i am only 14.

can someone help, please?

Itchy, peeling skin, %26amp; red and i'm clueless?
Oh honey you have a bad case of thrush. It's awful i know! Your mum may even have some canestan anti-fungal cream for some immediate relief but get to the docs pronto!
Reply:its a yeast infection prolly.
Reply:You probably have an yeast infection. Just go to a local store and get some creme for it or you could go to the doctor. But make sure you let your mom know.
Reply:DESPITE WHAT OTHER PEOPLE SAY HERE, IT IS THRUSH!!!! IT'S VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR AND MOTHER IMMIDIATLEY!!!!!!
Reply:looks like a yeast infection get some thing like "canisten" cream will need to use it for about 6 days form the drug store (chemist) also i suggest you get cotton panties so thing can breath down there. Talk to your mum Otherwise see a doctor
Reply:You may be having problem called dobhies itch! you don't need to worry !

This can appear due to sweat , try to keep this part as clean as possible by changing the inner cloths regularly!

There is a indian hair oil that cures skin rashes on the head called nava rathana hair oil This has aurvedic ingredients .
Reply:This is yeast. There are creams at Walmart for this. The doctor also has one pill you take for this. The one pill will cure for sure, and you only take one pill. The creams you have to insert for about 5 days at night. The creams are messy, and you may want to use a pad over night.(Tampons are not allowed because they absorb the cream). This is caused by heat. You need to keep dry, and change wet swimwear. You may be at risk for Diabetes.

I alway have skin allergy problem (itchy, red) with dust, chemical and dry weather. so what can i do to stop it?
When it gets red, dry and itcy, you can use hydrocortisone cream. You can get it OTC. Do not use the cream for more than 2 weeks. Take benadryl to stop the itchiness so that you wont scratch and worsen it. Keep it mosturized all the all time. I like Aveeno, it is a soy-base moisturizer. Protect your skin from chemicals that irritate your skin by weraing gloves. If this doesnt help, I would suggest you get help from a doctor. It might be not be just skin allergy.
Reply:When using chemical, wear rubber gloves. Also, take an allergy medication. Benedryl usually works very well, and it comes in the form of capsules AND creams.
Reply:I have something called exema (not the right spelling) I always have the dryest skin so just go to your doctor and get a prescription cream that should help -Brooke
Reply:Benadrill or however you spell it.Protect your skin from the dust,.
Reply:cortizone, rapidly goes away in about two days
Reply:make a blood alergy test to find out what effects u...so u can avoid some things u r allergic to

Why is my skin painful and itchy to the touch, but there is no rash?

Seven days ago, it started out as this stinging sensation under my right armpit, like a needle pricking me at a specific spot. It wasn't painful initially, but I couldn't stop rubbing and scratching at it. It became unbearably itchy and the area broadened. Eventually, it was extremely sensitive to the touch and painful; the feeling was akin to the sensation of the skin after burning it with hot water. It became painful to wear shirts. The odd thing is that there is no rash; my skin looks perfectly normal. It feels like it's under my skin, actually. For the past two days, I've been using Lamisil thinking it's a fungal infection, but no significant improvement. Is it viral, like shingles? I'm a 23 year old female, btw. I don't have health insurance at the moment, so if anybody can give me some information and names to OTC drugs, I'd be very grateful.

Why is my skin painful and itchy to the touch, but there is no rash?
I am NOT a doctor.

Have you been to a tanning bed recently? It could be a subdermal burn of the epidermis .(the second layer of skin is sunburned)
Reply:You might have really dry skin.
Reply:It might be shingles. Did you ever have chicken pox? If it is shingles, use a numbing agent such as lanacaine on it and take Motrin or Tylenol.
Reply:GET SOME BENIDRYL OR HYDROCORTIZONE 1% CREAM ALL OTC, AND CHEAP!!!!!!

Skin around eyes, itchy, red, dry, burns...anyone?

The skin around my eyes has been driving me crazy for some time now. Has anyone had this problem?

Description:

Red

itchy

dry and peeling

feels like a sunburn

burns when I put anything on them,

looks like I have pink eyeshadow on

very wrinkly, like alligatorish...hard to describe

I've done some research and read something about yeast could be a factor...or allergies. I am at my wits end and am in need of suggestions.

If you've had this and successfully gotten rid of it. PLEASE help me. This has been going on for 2 years now and it's making me look old, I'm only 31 and my eyes look 40.

Skin around eyes, itchy, red, dry, burns...anyone?
I used to have it constantly! I have gotten rid of it for the most part but it took a lot of investigation and trial and error to figure what was causing mine. The condition is called blepharitis.

To get rid of the initial symptoms, I used Occuscrub. I think it is by Bausch and Lomb. Then I used the eye gel, something like Occuclear, I think. I went without makeup for a week at times because it was so bad. I finally narrowed mine down to Maybelline makeup which I had been using for over 20 years. I also used to sleep without taking my makeup off, now if it's the last thing I do, I goop my eyes full of vaseline and wash my face real good. Rubbing my eyes with makeup on did not help. I think I was making tiny tears in my skin and the makeup would get inside. I am in my 40's and I know what you mean by it making your skin look old. A Prescriptives guy once told me that sleeping with your makeup on ages your skin 7 years.

I hope this helps you.
Reply:sounds like allergies. Have you tried any meds??

Just to make sure thought I would go see the doctors.

My skin is really itchy?

Latley my skin has developed rases on the bottoms of my feet and on my toes that are really itchy. I am now using this mosturising cream that will help my skin as I use chemicals at work. The bottoms of my feet though are weird the rash is like in a circle shape. It isn't where else. I have no idea what this is but my Mum is getting really worried as it is appearing on my hands too. Can anyone tell me what it is and how I can cure it??

My skin is really itchy?
Go to the Doctor. If they appeared on your feet first and now are on your hands, whatever it is, it's spreading which isn't a good sign. There may not be any topical treatment you can get over the counter to treat it so it's just best to go see a Doctor to get his opinion. You don't want the stuff to scar or keep spreading.
Reply:Rub diesel fuel on it!!!!!!!!!
Reply:Ring worm. You have to go to the doc to get anti-biotic cream especially made for it. It's not that big of a deal.
Reply:Keep scratching it
Reply:first of all, you need to do a bit of self-search and see what you do all day at home and at work. how is the chair u sit on, the table, the floor. Are they daily cleaned with a good deodarent or dettol. You say u you use chemicals at work. What are these chemicals, do they give rise to itching? If you are allergic to such chemicals you ought to bring it to the notice of your colleagues and superiors and have them do something about it.
Reply:Itch it some more because it just feels oooo so good!
Reply:Hi - GO TO A DOCTOR ASAP!!!

It sounds very much like either tinea or ring worm both of which are very very very contagious......

Anyone have this happen to their skin? Itchy?

My husband has some sort of issue with his skin where he will start itching uncontrollably and when he does scratch, it gets gets enflamed. Pics included. If you know what this is, let me know and what you used to treat it. So far, we just use benadryl and gold bond lotion, but we need a solution.

Anyone have this happen to their skin? Itchy?
His skin might be too dry, flaky and that can get itchy or he is sensitive to some clothing fibers (wear cotton or natural fibers, its better). Another thing can be bed mites. He should find out what sort of stuff he might be allergic to and avoid it or wash sheets more often. If you have pets, could be dander.

If he feels the itching coming on, take benadryl and rub some hydrocortizone 1-2%cream on it, you can get it over the counter. The inflamation streaks is most likely from bacteria from nails breaking the skin and body reacting. Wash the area with warm soapy water, rinse with cold and dry. Apply the cortizone cream and let is air dry. Also, If you apply ice pack to area when the itching starts it can numb it and reduce itching. Dont use heat b/c that just increases itch.
Reply:that just looks like some good sex
Reply:If you have any animals it could be a reaction to that. I don't think it is cerise's because they would be flacky. Go to the doc maybe and have him check it out. Good luck!
Reply:go to a dermatologist
Reply:Sounds like Hives (urticaria). Looks like it too. Both Benadryl and Gold Bond are pretty standard itch killers, but you can also try Aveeno Or Calimine lotion, and see if they give some relief, But if those don't help much either, it's time to hit the Doc up for some stronger stuff... Good Luck.

Why does dry shaving make your skin itchy?

i just really lightly and quickly dry shaved the tiny and annoying hairs on my legs and then moisturised afterwards and now they are sooo bloody itchy!!! why!!??!!?!

Why does dry shaving make your skin itchy?
Shaving cream and water provide a smooth surface for your razor to glide on your skin providing a very smooth shave with minimal irritation.

In dry shaving, the surface your razor is used in isn't smooth enough causing superficial microscopic nicks on your skin thereby causing the irritation and itchiness.
Reply:Your skin could have gotten irritated because shaving is really really harsh to the skin.

I get really itchy especially at night which causes bumps on my legs, head, arms, and back.

i stopped going tanning in tannning salon a month ago.

To stop the severe itching I take a benedryl to get to sleep.

what could this be?

Why is my skin itchy?
You might try switching laundry detergent. Something in your current brand might be irritating your skin. Also, make sure you only sleep on clean sheets.
Reply:it almost sounds like you are getting bit by something when you sleep or at night while you are awake benedryl is the best thing you could take it not only stops the itching but it makes you drowsy

What is it? I feel cracking in my knees when i bend down, feel my eyes are dry and always itchy, skin is dry,?

is it all post delivery symptoms???my baby is 13 months old......do all women suffer this?I also feel my throat being pressed......aaaawww.......feel depresed and angry all da time.......should i see my GP??

What is it? I feel cracking in my knees when i bend down, feel my eyes are dry and always itchy, skin is dry,?
You could be suffering from post partum depression and should see your doctor for medication to help you through this. The dry skin can be from hormone imbalance as well but could aslo indicate a thyroid problem. Your doctor would be able to do a simple blood test to check for this.
Reply:See your gp. Sjogrens desease can cause dry eyes and mouth and skin as it affects the moisture producing glands. Can also be related to arthritic conditions, so the fact your knees are clicking makes it a possibility that needs to be checked out. Good luck.
Reply:It could be Chondromalacia. I've studied sports %26amp; Physiology, and I learnt this could be my problem too.

Cracking, crunching knees, pain when under pressure, sometime sore joints - I get all these alot, and its to do with the knee cap. Theres no doctors cure. Just learn to fight it, and not put them under pressure.

try www.patient.co.uk for free printable leaflets/info.
Reply:I think you should go to your doctor ASAP. Whilst it may not be anything awful, you want to be confortable and enjoy life and the baby. Good luck.
Reply:Yes, see your GP. I think the knee thing and the other are probably unrelated tho. I know some women get this dry skin thing during or after pregnancy. Make sure you drink loads of water.
Reply:Some of it sounds hormonal. Get your doctor to check your insulin level. High insulin (a normal part of pregnancy) may not be subsiding as fast as it should, leaving you with residuals - one of which is hypoglycemia, which can cause the depression and anger.

Regarding the itchy dry skin and dry itchy eyes, my symptoms like that were due to a systemic yeast syndrome - something that can happen if blood sugar gets imbalanced due to hyperinsulinemia.

Check out all of this on www.hufa.org. Especially check out the yeast link and the symptoms link.

I am 3 months pregnant and want to use a good cream to prevent bad stretch marks and soothe itchy skin...?
Any brand that has coco-butter will work.
Reply:SIMPLE BABY OIL CAN DO
Reply:My OB nursing instructor has said that the brand Palmer's is very good and they make a lotion specific for stretch marks. You can get it most anywhere like Wal Mart, CVS, Walgreens, etc. Hope this helps and congratulations on the baby.
Reply:Look for Vitamin E Oil - you can get it at walmart, places like that. The Palmers Brand lotions are good too for stretch marks but Vit E Oil is the best!
Reply:Pure raw (West African) Shea Butter. NOTHING works as well!
Reply:You can't prevent them. It all genetic based on the elasticity of your skin.
Reply:PALMERS COCOA BUTTER LOTION FOR STRETCH MARKS, WORKED FOR MY FRIEND!
Reply:I used the Palmers Stretch Mark Cream with Cocoa Butter, Vit. E, etc. I used it through both of my pregnancies and not a single stretch mark! Yeah! I bought it at wal-mart.
Reply:You can try Bag Balm. The women I know who use it swear by it. They used it when they were pregnant and when they were nursing, but as a guy I don't have any first hand experience, with it that way. Its really good for dry and chapped skin though.
Reply:what i used to do is putting regular (sometimes from the pharmacy, the expensive kind) body oil and i used to put it on right after a bath or shower, so your skin is still wet, you may feel like a fish in a can but i do not have one stretchmarks.U also have to do the process whatever you choose to do, frequently.
Reply:Palmers Cocobutter will sooth them and keep them from being itchy. But there is no cream that will prevent them...its all genetics and how much weight you gain/how big the baby is.

I put on Palmers twice a day, every day from the time I found out I was pregnant....and my poor stomach looks like Freddy Kruger got ahold of me....and I only gained 18lbs so trust me, there is no prevention.
Reply:You can't prevent them. No matter how much cream or lotion you rub on. If you are genetically pre-disposed to getting them, you will. I have 2 kids and each child added more stretch marks. I tried everything. Although, anything with cocoa butter in it will help with itching. Try Palmers, it works well.
Reply:There really isn't anything that will help with stretch marks if you are meant to have them then you will have them....In some books that i have read ....You can prevent itchy skin on your stomach which they say that's what causes stretch marks ( when your belly itches cause it is dry) so use tons of lotion and DO NOT ITCH YOUR GROWING BELLY!!the more you itch it the more you most likely will see marks i lotioned up and i didn't get any stretch marks
Reply:Palmers Cocoa Butter massage lotion for stretch marks worked for me when i was pregnant with my son, and I use it with this pregnancy. It also comes in a cream form, which provides more moisture. Also, when I take a shower, after washing with my regular body wash, I wash my tummy with a little conditioner (any conditioner will work) for extra moisture, and it has kept the itching down. Thanks to this regimen, I have no stretch marks (I'm 32 weeks).
Reply:I have used Pure Coco Butter from Bath and Body Works. Im now 25.5 weeks and only have 3 marks on my thigh...so it seems to have worked. Although its very hard to find because our local Bath and Body doesnt carry it anymore. If you cant find it also try pure shea butter from bath and body..Good Luck!

Skin itchy and red after hair dye?

yesterday i got my hair dyed a light brown from kinda blonde and it was fine for the rest of yesterday and last night but this morning my neck around the hairline is red and a bit itchy kind of my ears too.

What can i do to make it better and could it be a reaction to the dye (the rest of my scalp is fine though!)

Skin itchy and red after hair dye?
It's most likely the dye. Maybe those areas were not rinsed as well since other areas are okay. It won't last long. My scalp gets red all over every time I dye it. If you had it done professionally, tell your hairdresser so they can take care. There is also a little packet of ? they can put in the dye to make it less reactive.
Reply:It probably is an allergic reaction from the dye. Take two Benadryl and call me in the morning. If it is severe, go to a dermatologist.

Now they don't make hexocil what shampoo can i use instead for red itchy skin and dry flaky coat?
See your doctor. Get your coat dry cleaned.
Reply:Please take your pet to the vet to find the cause of the red itchy skin and dry flaky coat. Then follow his/her recommendations.
Reply:Red itchy skin and dry flaky coat are symptoms of allergies, friend, and bathing is not the complete answer. If you truly want to help your dog, investigate and find out what it's allergic to.

Step 1: Check ear flaps, around the eyes, between the toes, and around the lips and bottom. If these are all red, itchy, and have a cobblestoned appearance, you are likely dealing with a food allergy. If the belly, groin and paws are itchy and red, you are probably looking at an environmental/contact allergy. If you can check off all of the above, your dog probably suffers from allergies to multiple sources.

Step 2: Narrow down your options. Talk to your vet about a prescription, limited ingredient diet for dogs with food allergies. Eliminate ALL other sources of food intake (including cookies, table scraps, even bones and chews) that do not have the same ingredients and nothing else. Give your dog a few weeks to respond to this, or until you can see a major difference in the ithchyness and appearance of the previous symptoms. At this point, you can begin introducing new ingredients to its diet, one by one, and monitor for allergic reactions.

For environmental allergies, talk to your vet about antihistamine therapy. This can be used in addition to limited ingredient diets to get the symptoms under control. Regular bathing with any hypoallergenic shampoo (once or twice a week), and daily cleaning of the feet and belly (Johnson's baby wipes work great for routine cleaning) to remove allergens from the skin and face are a great way to minimize exposure, while the antihistamines do the rest of the work.

Getting your dog's allergies under control will not only help eliminate the irritated skin, but will also help avoid nasty skin infections, ear infections and injuries, eye and mouth injuries from rubbing the face.
Reply:Malaseb is a fairly good alternative.
Reply:Dr Johns Medicated shampoo works really well
Reply:The simple answer is Malaseb. The more complicated answer is to find what's causing the problem, and quickly. See a vet who can do blood and scraping works to determine the cause then take it from there.

I have a German Shepherd with a flea bite allergy. Any suggestions for her itchy skin?

My dog has a severe allergy to flea bites. The Vet has suggested different allergy medications to control the itching (benadryl, etc.), we tried a few topical sprays that were recommended by the Vet. Nothing works. The Vet has given her a couple of steriod injections and said it would give her some relief. It didn't and I don't want her to have any more steroids. The Vet doesn't have any more suggestions other than putting her on harsh medications. Frontline only kills the fleas after they bite. It's my poor dog that concerns me. She is scratching herself raw. Does anyone have any remedies that have worked? I've done vinegar rinses, tea tree oil rubs, anti-itch shampoos, the allergy pills, the topical sprays and nothing helps. Also, I was wondering if anyone had a good flea repellent that is safe to put on my dog.

have you tried oatmeal baths...I mean just submerge her body in the oatmeal and have you there for about 10 minutes. Once your done just rinse dont wash. Also giving a dog garlic (form the clove) keeps the fleas off and from biting.....she'll get bit but the fleas will stop once the garlic is in her system, the garlic will come out through her skin and fleas wont bother. This helped my jack russell and my brothers dog. They were itching so hard they were bleeding. Good Luck and dont give up.
Reply:you need to rid the house and dog of fleas......that is the ONLY way to cure flea bite dermatitis,,,, your dog must not have any fleas...
Reply:I have heard of food allergies causing similiar problems. Are you sure the allergy is to fleas (frontline usually repells fleas as well) and not something else?

Try changing his diet to see if the condition clears up.
Reply:Oh im so sorry! Try this:

k-9 advantix

Its a flea medicine thingie that repels AND kills fleas misquitoes and ticks. Try it, cuz it just might work. Good luck!
Reply:when fleas started biting my dog and the area was kind-of raw i put aloe vera gel on the area, but this was only to sooth it and miosturize it and make it not so raw. not for any allergies. good luck!!! hopefully it will soon go away. i would also think about putting a cone on her head if it's as bad as you say ....
Reply:My grandma has a cat and dog that had fleas and she used Advantage to get the fleas to stop biting. You could litterally see all the fleas fall off because it kille dthem so fast. Make sure you give your dog a bath afterwards so you can get all the dead fleas off though. Make sure you read the instructions before you do anything.
Reply:One of my rescues was having many painful skin episodes...a lot of unnecessary vet trips and suffering until one vet inparticular asked me the "right" questions. Indeed, a single flea bite would put her "over the edge."

This dog was put on Advantage. It worked. She continued to stay on it with monitoring. Then other things popped up, including dry skin, which causes itching that can mimick itching and rawness from flea bite allergies. At first, I tried a tea tree oil shampoo and adding drizzles of olive oil to her diet, but then a vet put her on a med containing fish oil...

And yes, breaking the egg-laying cycle of fleas of imperative, so if you have other animals in the house, you need to consider all of them and a safe treatment, especially if you have mulitple species. If you have only the one dog, the Advantage SHOULD help break the cycle. It takes a while (can be weeks), but washing bedding, etc., will help in the interim.

There could be other things at play here (for example, food allergies, etc.), not just a reaction to flea bites. I would suggest trying another vet(s), for both you and your dog's health and sanity. That strategy has worked well for me over the years. I can't tolerate the suffering, and any vet who is offended, providing they know you've gone elsewhere, is a vet who needs to be more understanding and less egotistical.

Having been involved in rescue work of a few different species, I have found that different vets offer different perspectives and experiences...even with your "basic" dog and cat vets.

I hope that you and your baby find comfort soon.
Reply:give them beneydryl! my pug has allergies to flea bites also. the vet told us to give her that! it helps with the itching and lets it calm down. ask the vet how much for your size dog. pug is 21 pounds and she gets one pill. good luck
Reply:If your vet hasn't already done so, you might want to see about getting her a prescription for Prednisone. You can also see if feeding a high-quality food like Canidae or a prey-model raw diet helps. Skin allergies are often exacerbated by a poor diet. Last, add a fish-oil supplement with Vitamin E to whatever food you choose. It will help with itchy skin.

Does anyone know of a natural remedy for my jack russell terrier's itchy skin ?

i have a female jack russell terrier - she has wiry hair - and is always scratching along her spine.

Does anyone know of a natural remedy for my jack russell terrier's itchy skin ?
my jack was always really itchy too. I switched mine to a wheat free diet, and oatmeal shampoo and conditioner every couple weeks. It helped her tremendously.
Reply:I have a long hair Pomeranian. She get dry skin all of the time. I bathe her is an oatmeal shampoo and the I use conditioner on her. I also soak a nylon or panty hose (cut) filled with oatmeal in the tub while we bathe. After she is rinsed for the last time, I take the oatmeal sock and squeeze the juice all over her. The oatmeal helps with dry skin and itch until the next bath.
Reply:I don't know if by "natural" you mean some kind of herbal help or just not-medicinal...but if mean the latter my dog had the same problem and my vet suggested rubbing the dog down every day with Keri lotion.
Reply:Try a teaspoon a day of olive oil in her dog food for about a week or two.... it helps nurture the coat and help with nails and skin. Also, some rice can help ...same detail as olive oil. I'd try rice based dog food products.
Reply:SEE YOUR VET!

Find out what she has. Home remedies don't work on things like mange.
Reply:I have seen dog shampoos with colloidal oatmeal in them. I was also told that you can soak oatmeal in water and use that on the skin. Oatmeal has something in it that usually helps with dry or itchy skin in dogs. - animals and humans

What kind of foods or remedies can i give my dog to relieve itchy skin no he does not have fleas?

take your dog to the vet would be my first suggestion but baring that you might want to try an antihistamine. dogs have their histamine in the skin and itching can mean that your dog is having allergy problems instead of a humans runny nose he itches. smell his ears for a funny garlicky smell that is a symptom. if his ears smell he needs to go the vet and have them flushed, they will give you stuff to take home for that. the same stuff you take for your allergies works for dogs but you have to be very careful about the dosage, remember it is by weight not age with dogs.

What kind of foods or remedies can i give my dog to relieve itchy skin no he does not have fleas?
you can buy tea tree oil at most health food stores and it works really well
Reply:Fish oil capsules in his food (no, you dont have to open them, just hide in the food), brewers yeast, wheat germ, maybe even a little olive oil mixed in with the food---what you're looking for is "Essential Fatty Acids" to heal him from within. My dog has severe seasonal allergies too--I do all of the above AND give him a 1/2 Benadryl tablet (he's 65 pounds--make sure you adjust for weight) at night so he doesnt thump scratching all night long. ALSO when you bathe, use VERY LITTLE SHAMPOO and USE ONLY COOL WATER not hot. Hot water releases "histamines" which cause the itch.
Reply:depending on what type of dog it is you can do several natural remedies so that it will not affect his digestive system. Like an oatmeal bath or a bath with tea tree oil.
Reply:better dog food...like nutro max. DO NOT feed your dog science diet dog food!!! that is not what you are feeding it....are you??? Sciense diet causes cancer,PLEASE do not feed your dog science diet!!
Reply:It could be mange. Try white vinegar baths without getting into eyes. Just white vinegar. Leave on for about 5 minutes then dry. Do this three times a week for a week. If it doen't work go to your vet.
Reply:My dog has seasonal allergies and his skin itches almost until he is bloody. Started taking him to a vet that would give him a cartesione shot. It stops the itching within an hour or so and last up to l month and l/2 normally. Doctors do not like to give it too often, but please ask the doctor to give him the cortesione shot and poor thing will begin to feel so good. I have another yorkie that does not suffer from this so he is fine. But poor binky does just fine as long as he gets that shot every month or so until the allegy (summer season) is over with. Hope this helps.
Reply:buy some dog shamp that has t-tree oil in it.also give it benadril
Reply:we live in floirda, and our dogs have the same problem, we give them a benadryl and vitamin E
Reply:You can give Benadrly. Here's a website with the dosage by weight. http://animalsunlimited.net/meds.htm

Reply:My dog has the same problem and after a visit to the vet I was told it was an allergy to something in the environment. A human antihistamine was recommended during bad flare ups.

All of a sudden I'm getting tiny patches of hard, dry, and itchy skin on my body. What is it?
psoriasis, go to the doctor get it taken care of it will spread all over your body
Reply:This is similar to the condition I have. I started getting those too on my back a few years ago. I went to the doctor and he gave me this cream. It did nothing. I'm not sure what it is called, maybe psoriasis like the other poster said. When I scratch them (extremely itchy), it spreads like crazy. After months with this condition and having it spread from a small region of my back to half of my back, I decided to resist the temptation to scratch or even touch them, it slowly healed and fell off. It stopped for 6 months then it came back. I believe its a reocurring condition. I just ignored it and not touch them, it will away as before. It usually occur when I was under extremely stress or when I scratched my back too harshly.
Reply:I AM NOT SURE WHAT COULD BE CAUSING THIS CONDITION BUT I USUALLY USE NATURAL/HERBAL REMEDIES. A GOOD ONE FOR SKIN ISSUES IS TEA TREE OIL. ALL NATURAL....GREAT STUFF!

Now they don't make hexocil what shampoo can i use instead for itchy skin and dry flaky coat?

why have they discontinued Hexocil does any one know? it was such great stuff i dont know what to use instead.

malaseb is good from the vets
Reply:Malaseb is for treating bacterial and fungal skin infections and we only prescribe it for these things. As it contains chlorhexidine it may aggravate sensitive skin so I would discourage you from using it. Report It

Reply:head and shoulders?
Reply:T-Gel is what my daughter uses, or sometimes Head %26amp; Shoulders can be very effective.
Reply:t-gel is really good because i use that but it is expensive through but u can also try head and shoulders that will work

Reply:if this is for your horse ask you vet .they see this alot and maybe even have them check your horse in case something is wrong.i know you can also add vegetable oil in their feed to help with their coat and skip but ask your vet the amount for your horse.my vet told my about a 1/2 cup a day works great.
Reply:For horses, you don't want to use people shampoo because it is too sweet smelling and it attracts files. I use this, and it keeps their coat nice and it ahs citronella in it so it keeps flies away.

Reply:Malaseb ?

Depending on where the flakiness is you could try pig oil and sulphur.

You can get Malaseb from the vets ( about £10 lasts for ages )
Reply:For you or your horse?
Reply:deff use head and shoulders. it works really well and is cheaper than any other horse shampoo
Reply:Oh, I'm having a hard time remembering which is which, but I think you're either in need of Malaseb or Lytar...I think they're by the same brand though, so it shouldn't be too hard to find out which one to use...
Reply:Coatex aloe and oatmeal shampoo is what we use at the practice for both dogs and horses with dry itchy skin. Also, adding linseed to the diet will make all the difference. Rather than using linseed oil, which is expensive, use actual linseeds. You can by them semi-crushed, almost like a sort of linseed-meal, and add 10-20g to the feed twice a day.

Our practice manager has a 18 month old with what looks like sweet-itch. He has scurfy skin all over and was losing first his mane and tail and then the hair on his belly. I biopsied his skin but all it came back as was eosinophilic (allergic-type) dermatitis, with no clue as to what was causing it. We allergy tested him and he was allergic to all sorts of things including soya. A change in diet and a switch from straw to woodchips helped but did not entirely solve the problem. My boss suggested adding this crude linseed to the diet. Within a week his coat was glossy and within 3 weeks the scurf had visibly reduced all over, even in his mane and tail.

Linseed is much better than corn or vegetable oil for this kind of condition - any oil will give a sheen to a normal horse but only linseed will make this much difference to a horse with an actual skin condition. I think it's priced at around £20-30 per kg but as you only use no more than 40g a day it works out pretty cheap compared to buying oil. If you're in the UK and you want to know where to buy it drop me a line and I'll find out for you.

Any ideas how to help an American Bulldog with severe allergies and very itchy skin?

Our American Bulldog is allergic to almost every type of grass and pollen. We are having her treated by a dermatologist but now summer is on the way, her scratching has started again. She scratches so much she makes herself bleed. She drags her belly and chest along the grass or carpets and makes herself very sore. We have tried a number of things but nothing seems to work. Has anyone experience of this and any tried and tested remedies. Please try and help us.....

Any ideas how to help an American Bulldog with severe allergies and very itchy skin?
By adding an ounce of Electro-Colloidal Silver to the dogs water bowl on a daily basis should help tremendously with the allergies, It can also be applied directly to the skin and fur to prevent infections and accellerate the healing of itchy abrasions and contusions. Let it air-dry. You should be able to find some Electro-Colloidal Silver in your local health food store or at a discount directly from some manufacturers on the internet. Run a search. It is also not hard to make it yourself and save considerably more. The use of Electro-Colloidal Silver in the care of pets is a really worthwhile subject to look into.
Reply:Take her to your Vet.

She can either have a shot for allergies or your vet can prescribe an anti inflammatory cream.

Please don't use human creams.
Reply:I do not have a Bulldog, but I do have a Lab with severe grass and pollen allergies. I tried all of the skin products that I could find...anything that was safe for a dog, I most likely have used. None of them really worked at all. I finally bit the bullet and had my vet get allergy shots for her. It was a little expensive, around $400.00 up front and then the vials are $150.00 for about a 4 month supply. The vet had her tested, found out exactly what she was allergic to and had a lab create a shot specifically for her. I now give her a bath once a week with a special hypoallergenic shampoo and I give her a shot every 10 days. It has been 6 months since we started the shots and she is a changed dog. She has gotten all of her hair back, the scabs are gone and she is no longer scratching herself like crazy. Like I said, it is a little expensive but for me it was well worth it.
Reply:This is a product that is very good for her, and will really help: http://springtimeinc.com/product/88/2

If they won't ship to your area ( they are super nice people and I think they will) then write down the ingredients and take to your herbal shop to see if they can provide the same. .
Reply:I had a Rott who always had huge hot spots so we did the allergy test on him where they shaved his entire side and injected him with about 40 diff things and checked him 24 and 48 hours later. The vet had a solution made up of the top 10 or so worst allergic things and I gave him a shot every day for a month or so then every other day then twice a week and so on until he was getting his shot once every 4 to 6 weeks. This is the only method for very allergic dogs, the blood allergy test is not as good. My g/f's 2 ABs are very allergic as well and always red and itchy but they do not want to spend the $$ getting them tested. Changing foods doesn't help as they are allergic to grass, molds etc not food.
Reply:I have a Shih-tzu with the same problems. I went to my vet and told him I did not want steroids, so he put him on a steroid free pill called Atopica ( a-top-i-ka). Took about 3 weeks to enter his system and I have been using it for about 3 years now. My dog no longer itches and makes himself bleed. I resorted to this daily pill after numerous attempts with shots, special shampoos, etc. When you have this severe of a problem like I did, nothing mild works. Since then, I have recommended this product to many of my customers and their skin problems have disappeared. I have heard of my customers using what Dr. Bob was suggesting with great success. So try either one. Good luck!

What is the best shampoo to use on cats who have scabby itchy skin?

If they have scabby itchy skin, there's obviously some sort of skin irritation or allergy. You need to get this cleared up before you use any form of shampoo on your cats. Although the shampoo might not effect them at all, there is a very strong chance that you're going to make the irritation worse. Go to the vet and find out what's causing the itchiness to start with.

What is the best shampoo to use on cats who have scabby itchy skin?
Oooh poor kitty!

You can use any oatmeal based shampoo. The best thing to do is brush him out first, then wet him down. After applying the shampoo let it set for 5 minutes. Make sure you rinse really really well. If any shampoo is left on kitty it can make the itchy dry skin worse. If its a really severe case, you can use a tar based shampoo. Good luck!
Reply:Shampoo and frequent bathing will only dry out your cat's skin and make the problem worse. You need to investigate the REASON for the condition and not just try to treat the symptoms.

My doctor has run blood tests and a check up due to itchy skin, he says it is menopause.?
I have terribly itchy skin. It's the backs of my arms or on my feet usually. I hate it. I have heard that it can come with the beginning of menopause as well. Yeah --- something more to look forward to. Ha!
Reply:Are you Diabetic? This will cause dry skin.Menopause will to.Other med's will. And it could be your detergent.Moisturize every night and after ever bath or shower.Good luck.
Reply:This is the reason why I started to study about alternative medicine. So many times i was disappointed living the doctors office. Once I went to the doctor to check my Thyroid and i was telling him that I really want to loose more weight, and he said to me, that he wishes to look that good like me," just go home, its nothing wrong with you", and I had to pay 278$ for that visit.

Coconut Oil, its very good for your condition. Try it its not expensive, I use it every time I take a bath. I use as a scrub (mixed with sugar)or just like that.

You can make even more researches to be more confident.

Good luck!!!
Reply:Are you old enough for menoupause? I'm 47 and I have had several symptoms of pre-menopause and yet every time I go to the doctor, the first thing he tells me is you are to young yet to be menopaual, so I was just wondering. There are so many other things that can cause itchy skin that can cause rashes, from your laundry detergent to your body spray, to your humidity in your home to the humidity in your work enviornment it just seems odd that the first thing your doctor would think about is menopause. If you are using a new skin cream or have changed your cream, same as changing the soap you use in the shower, there are so many thing that can trigger rashes. I had a young girl stay with us, she was from Korea and had never used a north american washer and dryer, and after about 2 weeks here she developed a major rash that covered her entire body EXCEPT her hands and head, so what does that tell you? I began watching her, and when she used the washer she would stand beside it and as soon as it finished washing the clothes she would take them out of the washer and put them into the dryer. I didn't clue into it until after she made an appointment with the Doctor, and even though I explained it to her time after time she refused to understand to the point she moved out of my house. She never let the washer go through the rinse cycle. I know that where she went to live after here, it was the same thing, and her rash never went away until she went back to Korea. So something little can trigger it, then something else can make it worse, you just have to figure out the root first. Good Luck
