I have this dry itchy patch of skin on my left side ( on ribs ). I know for sure its only been there for about a couple of months but now more than before its itchy. It feels like dry skin and is slighty reddish. It only becomes really itchy when i dont have a shirt on. Is it just a rash from my arm rubbing my side? Anyone know what it could be?

Might be irritating from your sweat. Try Eucerin cream, it is specially formulated for dry, itchy skin. Or try Gold Bond lotion it is actually medicated. If neither of those work I'd go see your regular doctor and/or a dermatologist. Have you changed soap or detergents lately? Or maybe it's an allergy to something you ate/drank. It's weird you would only have it on one area of your body though. good luck with that.
Reply:Are you obese? Then it might be a heat rash. But it sounds like psoriasis to me. Go see a doctor man, they make medicine for that.
Reply:It could be psoriasis. I found that Eurcerin Calming Cream does a wonderful job to soothe the area. I recommend seeing a dermotologist to find out what is going on for sure.
Reply:It's probably just a patch of ecema. It's not dangerous, just annoying. If it really bothers you, a dermatologist can give you something to make it go away. The patches can clear up on their own though; it just takes longer.

Reply:It might be a good idea to see a dermatologist. It may be eczema or psoriasis. If that's the case, a prescription would do the trick. It may take a few days though for it to disappear.

How to relieve severe itchy skin.?
I am still working on this one myself- aveno oat meal baths, reguarly use a healing mosturizer (I like curel ultra healing extra strength skin hydrator) the key is to put it on before the itching starts- Ive been told not to use cortizone too much because it thins the skin- benadryl gel can be helpful- store it in the fridge so that its cold when it goes on- sarna anti-itch cream SOMETIMES helps- I also find it helpful sometimes to either apply an ice pack or wrap it in an ace bandage- Ive also been told to "pat dry" when getting out of shower/bath- avoid scratching at all costs- BELIEVE ME I KNOW HOW DIFFICULT THIS IS!!

I've tried steroid shots, Dinovite, bathing her in chlorine-free water, medicated shampoos and dips. Everything works for a few days or weeks, but nothing works long-term. Has anybody found something that will work permanently?

sounds like allergies...of some sort...i figured out one of my dogs was allergic to the carpet cleaner i scrub my floors with. it bothered me a bit to....so vinger and water 1:2 ratio is all i clean my carpets with now.
it could be her food some dogs can't eat wheat or corn. and really no dog should.
it could be a flea problem. garlic powder is litely sprinkled on mines food to keep the biters at bay.
it could be grass....
i bathe my dogs in oatmeal baby shampoo...and some times when hot spots araise i put vitamin e oil on the skin and rub it in....its the best thing i have found to work and i don't have to worry about them licking it w/o me knowing.
bathing to much can cause dry skin as well.

I found this in a holistic book for pets. I also gave him a B1 low dose supplement everyday to keep fleas, and mosquito's away, and a garlic pill everyday to keep out worms. The dog thrived. Vet after vet, shot after shot, cream after cream. no one knew what the problem was, One vet even said to have Him neutered as it was hereditary. So we did. Still his skin condition got so bad we thought they were going to have to amputate his tail. One day I stopped at another vet by accident. He said to bring him in as they knew already what it was. Yep, it was his food, he had severe food allergies. Once we switched to a good quality food. all his skim problems cleared up and have never returned.
Try another vet and see what they have to say about switching her food.
You may want to try switching to a good quality food. One where the first couple ingredients are NOT corn, or any of the meals.
They cost a little more, but it sure is worth it.

hi. you can try calcipotriol ointment ( dovonex ointment) for psoriasis prescription only.also try fuibet cream for ezcma also prescription only. consult your gp for best advise.

Since being advised to "moisturise from the inside" my skin has been fine for a long time. I drink 2 litres of water a day and take evening primrose oil. Maybe you could give that a try..?

Reply:Makuna honey ( I think thats how it is spelt ) from New Zealand is meant to help. Take 3 spoonfuls a day and put some on your skin, wrap in cling film and leave for 20 mins. then rinse off.

How can i treat itchy skin in my dog?
It depends on what's causing the itchiness. If the dog has an allergy, discovering and treating the allery specifically will alleviate the itch. If the dog has a chronic skin condition (like eczema or Psoriasis) it may take medication to correct the itch. Have you dog checked by a vet to determine the cause.
To help make your dog more comfortable before you go to the vet, you can give it a bath in an oatmeal based dog-safe shampoo and feed it an oil-rich diet. (We give the dogs with dry skin here Flaxseed oil once a day to help improve their skin condition and coat.) There are also spray-on topical anti-itch products available online. See www.drsfostersmith.com for some examples.

Like putting a raw egg in there food for about 2 weeks to see if it helps.
Skin so soft by Avon is also used, you give the dog a bath and put some in there shampoo.
Lamb based food is good for skin.
Brushing your dog helps stimulate the natural oils in there skin.

Reply:now itchy skin can be caused from a number of things, but to try to get under control try batheing him in a mild shampoo like baby shampoo(johnson%26amp;johnson), and a mild dog condionorand once you do that, after you dry him use pure aloe vera cream or gel on the itchy spots. you can use the aloe every day till the spots start to go away. i do this for my dogs and it works really good. good luck
