Is there anything i could use on my dog for her dry itchy skin. natural if possible.?
Go to petco and by the Oatmeal Shamppo, SMELLS great and works very well.
Reply:Oatmeal-based shampoos and conditioners for dogs work well if it's just dry skin. Omega-3 fatty acid supplements (fish oils) can help too.
Reply:Adding some vegetable oil in her food may help, a lot of times this helps to moisturize from the inside. A tablespoon on her food everyday would be enough. You can also purchase fish oil capsules from a drugstore that helps to moisturize as well.
Reply:fish oil %26amp; lamb and rice dog food
Reply:Switch to a high quality premium food as they have less additives and preservatives than the supermarket brands.

Also try bathing her with a oatmeal or aloe vera dog shampoo there are a few out there that are recommended for dogs with sensitive skin.

Also add a teaspoon of olive oil to her food once a day. Olive oil can help prevent the skin from drying out.

If none of these methods seem to be working after a fortnight, it might be best to get your dog checked out by the vet in case an underlying condition is causing the itchy dry skin. You may need to use some conventional medication to break the itch cycle.
Reply:Start from the inside out.

Food - Nothing from the grocery store. Most contain corn and/or wheat, which are empty fillers and may cause allergies and itching, also avoid foods with wheat gluten and rice protein - these were the causes of the recen pet food recalls. Cheap ways of boosting protein. I suggest Canidae

Another excellent food would be Wellness Super 5 Mix by Old Mother Hubbard, which contains Omega-3 and -5 fatty acids, both necessary for healthy skin and coat.

Both these foods are made with all natural human grade ingredients.

Bathe infrequently as this may dry out her skin, use a dog shampoo made with oatmeal or tea tree oil, never use human shampoo on a dog - wrong pH.

Try a spoonful of olive oil on her kibble each evening. Start with a tsp and work your way up to a tablespoon if she tolerates it well (no diarrhea)
Reply:they have canned lard in the vegetable section. depending on the size of the animal, height ,coat %26amp;. weight for large dogs use maybe a teaspoon mixed in with their dry chow dilute it with wqarm water. you should see a big difference in 2-3 weeks. be carerful not to give too much or they will have the runs. we used this on our AKC show dogs and thier skin and caots were great. also try using a baby shampoo for bathing them with.
Reply:I was always told to give your dog and raw egg mixed with their food once in awhile to help with their skin and coat. I never did that if it isn't good for humans to eat raw eggs I wouldn't give it to my dog.... But I use to use an oatmeal shampoo you can get at almost anystore.
Reply:Add 2 capsules of fish oil, not fish LIVER oil, to her food daily, if over 50lbs, if under 50lbs, only 1 capsule. And add half the recommended daily dose of a zinc tablet, you can get zinc tablets mixed with other things such as vitamin d +c. There are many shampoos out there that are herbal, specifically for ithcy skin, in fact, many of the supermarket brands are incorporating a herbal shampoo to their range. Or you can make your own anti itch wash.

To 1 500ml, milk baby shampoo, add 1 cup of olive oil and emulsify, blend. Add 1 cup of powdered oatmeal, 2 drops each of lavender, geranium and chamomile essential oils, and 2 teaspoons of carrot seed oil or powdered carrot seed. Blend it all really well and leave to sit in a dark place for a week, shake before use.

You can also add grated raw carrot and apple to her food daily, its really good for hair and skin. Hope this helps. I spent 2 years looking for something to relieve my dogs itchiness, and although there were other causes for her horrible skin, all these worked together really well, even to alleviate itchiness caused by mange, allergies and a bad bacterial infection.
Reply:I give my dogs a whole, raw fish head twice a week. I also mix in olive oil, or break open eggs over their food.

My smallest had food allergies, and it caused her skin to really bother her, and it flaked everywhere, and my largest was malnourished when i adopted her, and had awful skin problems.

Now that they are on this diet and get the fish, all their coats and skin are amazing. Even my terrier with his wirery fur has a glossy, shiny coat, and the skin problems are gone.
