Why is my skin painful and itchy to the touch, but there is no rash?

Seven days ago, it started out as this stinging sensation under my right armpit, like a needle pricking me at a specific spot. It wasn't painful initially, but I couldn't stop rubbing and scratching at it. It became unbearably itchy and the area broadened. Eventually, it was extremely sensitive to the touch and painful; the feeling was akin to the sensation of the skin after burning it with hot water. It became painful to wear shirts. The odd thing is that there is no rash; my skin looks perfectly normal. It feels like it's under my skin, actually. For the past two days, I've been using Lamisil thinking it's a fungal infection, but no significant improvement. Is it viral, like shingles? I'm a 23 year old female, btw. I don't have health insurance at the moment, so if anybody can give me some information and names to OTC drugs, I'd be very grateful.

I am NOT a doctor.

Have you been to a tanning bed recently? It could be a subdermal burn of the epidermis .(the second layer of skin is sunburned)
Reply:You might have really dry skin.
Reply:It might be shingles. Did you ever have chicken pox? If it is shingles, use a numbing agent such as lanacaine on it and take Motrin or Tylenol.
Reply:GET SOME BENIDRYL OR HYDROCORTIZONE 1% CREAM ALL OTC, AND CHEAP!!!!!!
Reply:y don't u go to a doctor ??
