What kind of foods or remedies can i give my dog to relieve itchy skin no he does not have fleas?

take your dog to the vet would be my first suggestion but baring that you might want to try an antihistamine. dogs have their histamine in the skin and itching can mean that your dog is having allergy problems instead of a humans runny nose he itches. smell his ears for a funny garlicky smell that is a symptom. if his ears smell he needs to go the vet and have them flushed, they will give you stuff to take home for that. the same stuff you take for your allergies works for dogs but you have to be very careful about the dosage, remember it is by weight not age with dogs.

you can buy tea tree oil at most health food stores and it works really well
Reply:Fish oil capsules in his food (no, you dont have to open them, just hide in the food), brewers yeast, wheat germ, maybe even a little olive oil mixed in with the food---what you're looking for is "Essential Fatty Acids" to heal him from within. My dog has severe seasonal allergies too--I do all of the above AND give him a 1/2 Benadryl tablet (he's 65 pounds--make sure you adjust for weight) at night so he doesnt thump scratching all night long. ALSO when you bathe, use VERY LITTLE SHAMPOO and USE ONLY COOL WATER not hot. Hot water releases "histamines" which cause the itch.
Reply:depending on what type of dog it is you can do several natural remedies so that it will not affect his digestive system. Like an oatmeal bath or a bath with tea tree oil.
Reply:better dog food...like nutro max. DO NOT feed your dog science diet dog food!!! that is not what you are feeding it....are you??? Sciense diet causes cancer,PLEASE do not feed your dog science diet!!
Reply:It could be mange. Try white vinegar baths without getting into eyes. Just white vinegar. Leave on for about 5 minutes then dry. Do this three times a week for a week. If it doen't work go to your vet.
Reply:My dog has seasonal allergies and his skin itches almost until he is bloody. Started taking him to a vet that would give him a cartesione shot. It stops the itching within an hour or so and last up to l month and l/2 normally. Doctors do not like to give it too often, but please ask the doctor to give him the cortesione shot and poor thing will begin to feel so good. I have another yorkie that does not suffer from this so he is fine. But poor binky does just fine as long as he gets that shot every month or so until the allegy (summer season) is over with. Hope this helps.
Reply:buy some dog shamp that has t-tree oil in it.also give it benadril
Reply:we live in floirda, and our dogs have the same problem, we give them a benadryl and vitamin E
Reply:You can give Benadrly. Here's a website with the dosage by weight. http://animalsunlimited.net/meds.htm

Reply:nutro natural choice dog food has linatone in it. or just get the linatone at the pet store. a spoon on the food every day makes skin and hair much more moist and shiny.
Reply:my rottie mix had this problem and we change his food to premium edge food and he's doing great and his coat is now shiny and soft
Reply:My dog has the same problem and after a visit to the vet I was told it was an allergy to something in the environment. A human antihistamine was recommended during bad flare ups.
