Do u know a home remedy for a dog, itchy skin, and bold patches?
My terrier has the same symptoms. It turned out to be a skin allergy.

So, first, you need to see if you can figure out what's causing it. It could be an ingredient in his food, or in the case of mine, an allergy to flea bites. (We've had a bad flea season, had to treat the dogs, the house, and the yard several times.)

To alleviate his itching, though, you can try an oatmeal bath. Pick up some colloidal oatmeal at the drugstore (people with skin irritations use it all the time) Make a paste of it with a little water, wet the dog, and just slather it on. Let it sit as long as he'll stand for it, and rinse with cool water. That should help a bit.

The vet will have some great stuff for you, like LyTar shampoo, and maybe an antihistamine. If you call them, they may recommend Benadryl, they'll know how to dose it for your dog, but don't take the advice of some random person on the web about how to dose Benadryl. Half the sites are wrong.
Reply:Oatmeal is supposed to soothe the skin, I believe.
Reply:She might have an allergy to something, but I would just use some itch relief for people. That should work just fine.
Reply:They have an oatmeal shampoo and conditioner for dogs. It's good stuff. Rinse the shampoo thoroughly, but Leave a little bit of the conditioner in.

Still take the pup into the vet. My dog was just about to lose all of her hair and vet found that she had a staph infection.
Reply:it could be food allergy's. my dog has that i feed my black lab Natural Life from walmart and it has none of the junk in it also the Dick Van Patten food is good (i don't remember the name sorry!).

you can give her some children's allergy meds that helps to. my dog also has allergy's to some weeds. i hope that helps!
Reply:If it's hot and wet, its what is called a hot spot..We've used Tenactin powder spray for jock itch for years and it works great. However, if it presists even after you put spray on it after two days, I would still go to the vet..But I bet it looses it's redness and the itching...
Reply:My little Boston Terrior has the same problem...However, she's alergic to fabric softener %26amp; fleas!

Our solution...no fab softener %26amp; the vet recomended Safflower Oil, a teaspoon sprinkled over her dry food everyday and an egg once a day (cooked any way, we cook it in the microwave for a minute in a coffee mug).

This remedy has been working for six years...she's now eight.
Reply:Well... depending on wether the dog is an indoor or an outdoor dog where the spots are located on the body and what exactly is causing the bald spots is key to determining what treatment you should use.If the dog is an outdoor dog causes are most likely flys or gnats biting and irritating the skin , If the dog is an indoor dog most likely it is hot spots wich my rottie had and also has been getting eaten up by flys on his ears.I suggest getting an antibiotic ointment for now and massage it into the dogs skin.Clean the area and wipe it out with hydrogen peroxide or some type of antiseptic solution first.
Reply:to me is sounds like skin mites so try teatree oil it wont get rid of them but does help with the itching if it is mites the dog will need a few injection to get rid of them as they wotk there way into the hair folicals and makes the hair fall out
Reply:Our dumb mutt has the same problem ....we use a natural remedy which we buy from a local market.

It has a honey base %26amp; seems to do the trick ..
Reply:try a petbarn store,it may be a dermcare prob.skin allergy from foods, carpets etc can be controlled by diet of no beef, try boiled chicken, rice, some pastasand veg.buy new beding+keep it clean.fleas+ringworm may contribute,u can buy medicated foam like malaseb, but do try get to vet asap,as the dog may need antibiotic and cortisone.make sure u ask about the side effects to any meds..lots of dogs get skin probs like us,i have 2 silky terriers that do and 2 that dont.if mummy dogs have it,some pass onto there young..read instructions on all products u consider and use them as directed.be continuious with treatment as most skin probs are for life and its very uncomfortable..goodluckto you all...
Reply:The dog has a problem!!!

Take it to the vet to get it put down.

Oh the vet is closed???

Take it to the bush for a leisurely walk and LEAVE IT THERE!!!!
Reply:I give my dog a bath with dawn or something like that that cleans well. Then I fill the tub to about 3 inches with water and put baby oil or Skin So Soft (Avon sells it) and let her soak in it. Putting oatmeal in it instead of the oil works well too. You have to go to the vet to get rid of the problem. This only treats the symptoms. My advice change the food. My dog was half bald too. Look for high amounts of protein in the food. Higher than she/he is already getting.
Reply:bath them in baking soda it works great for pet dander and hot spots! i've done it many times, it really does work!
Reply:wash the dog in boraxo from the laundry aisle...soak a mixture of boraxo and water on his skin and allow it to dry
Reply:sounds like a skin allergy. my dog has that too,but mine weighs 30 pounds and I can give her benadryl (vet said its okay). But Im not sure if its a good idea to give it too such a small dog.

oatmeal bath would probably work. Good Luck
Reply:i have had 3 dogs that have suffered from skin irritations before and i have found the best thing for it is Emu oil and hydrocordizone ointment rotate them out every other day and it should clear up before you know it. you can get the Emu oil and your local vitamin store hope it works out for you
