My dog's itchy skin?

Latley my dog has been itcing a lot and has a bunch of little dandruff flakes all aver his back and mostly his back. I looked at his skin and where he likes me to scratch it there is a little red irritation. Does anyone know what it is or anything I can do at home that may help?

My dog's itchy skin?
should first check if he has fleas, if yes use flea shampoo to wash him, if not - then avoid flea shampoo b/c chemicals will aggravate his skin if he is scratching b/c of allergies and has sensitive skin.Instead use all natural dog shampoo like "buddy wash" (smells delicious) you can get one from ortis.com or maybe a pet store, but google it.Also get him product called Linatone, it's for dry skin, itching and flaking and excessive shedding. It has omega 3 from fish oil plus some extra vitamins.Thant's it! Good luck now and hope fluufy will get better.I had same thing going on way back when we just got ours, not anymore b/c we did all of the above.
Reply:I use dishsoap when I bathe my dog and that keeps flakes away. You could try looking that stuff up on google or calling your vet.
Reply:I would definitely say take him to the vet. A number of things can cause irritations. It could be the shampoo your using to bathe him, allergies or sensitivities, diet, fleas or mites...

To be on the safe side and make sure it isn't anything that could really harm your dog, I would check with a vet.

Good luck!

Reply:90 % of the time a dog itches because it is dry skin and all you need to do is put some vegatible oil in its food. Here are some things to try. oil in food. change shampoo if not using dog shampoo. When trying diffrent shampoo's give a few weeks to see if it is working. Put triple antibiotic cream from over the shlef on any red area's. Do check for flee's. Or ticks. Then if these things don't work then seek a vet, but don't pay for a vet bill if these things will work I have heard of someone using a human dandruff shampoo. And was ok but I don't think that will be neccasary. Mine all did fine with the oil in food and make sure using a good food.
