I have itchy skin a lot and have never experienced this in my 42 years of life what do you think this is?

My lifestyle is the same as before and my diet is very healthy.

I have areas especially on my hands, scalp and my mid-section that erupt after intense scratching and raised rashes develop in these areas until eventually the skin becomes very rough and dry until the cycle begins again.

My hairdresser tells me it is a form of psoriasis and I would have

been born with it, but why now at this stage in my life would I suddenly get it?

That is not true about being born with psoriasis- some people develop it later on in life. You should probably see a dermatologist- she can prescribe creams for you. Good luck.
Reply:check your blood sugar, cholesterol
Reply:Psoriasis can hit at any age. You need to see a doctor, there's medication available for you to stop it. One thing is Methotrexate either by injection or pills, but if you take it, you need to be monitored every month with a blood test for your liver. Also you cannot drink any alcohol otherwise they need to take a biopsy of your liver regularly, where the stick a needle into it. Therefore if you can manage with topical creams you're better off. But do see your doc.
Reply:It could be a form of eczema. Visit a Dermatologist. He/she will be able to help.
Reply:Unfortunately, our body seems to disagree with us once we turn 40. See a dermatologist or your primary care physician.
Reply:Definitely visit a doctor, please. And be assertive, don't let them brush you off. Your body is trying to tell you something. Pay attention to it.

I do not believe psoriasis is very itchy; it generally is on elbows and knees I believe, as well as the scalp. Also, could it be shingles?

I had intense itching of my hands and feet, but only mentioned it when I was at the doctor for some type of illness; they always brushed it off. I have recently found out that I have cirrhosis--the "silent killer" which has few recognizable symptoms until it is far advanced. One symptom is intense itching of any part of the body. It is caused by the liver functioning improperly and the body releasing bile salts through, for instance, the hands and feet.

We might have found this illness sooner if I had only known to pursue it more. Now it has caused further complications called "metabolic syndrome" which include elevated blood sugar, cholesterol, and blood pressure. Don't settle until you get a meaningful diagnosis and treatment.

God bless you and your health.
Reply:try taking an antihistamine such as benadryle and use a cream called eucerine. also, when u get out of the shower apply lotion while ur skin is still a little wet. it may b caused by laundry detergent, the cold season (winter itch), allergic reaction, hormones, or a skin condition such as psoriasis, roseasha, etc.. first try to relieve it. if it does not go away or gets worse go to a dermatologist. it can also be b/c of stress.
