Hello all, I am 14 weeks pregnant w/ my first (YAY!) and my stomach has started popping out...the problem is since last night I have been itching aroung my ribs my hips, belly, legs. Is this a sign of skin stretching already? or could it be something more serious? any one experience something similar? Thanx :)
Itchy skin, only 14 weeks pregnant?
No it's the stretching...
Go out and get yourself some Palmers Stretch March Cream ...one to try and prevent some of the marks..but more importantly ...to relieve the itching...I put that stuff on DEFINATELY after a shower...but sometimes two or three times a day...
I was very itchy and this stuff was the only thing I put on that seemed to relieve the itching and last for more than an hour...
Good Stuff.
Congratulations by the way!! :)
Reply:Could be dry skin that's common in pregnancy. Just use lotion it helped me.
Reply:Well, yes it could be your skin stretching. Try some lotions. I've been told not to stratch because it would cause stretch marks. I use lotion all over as soon as I get out of shower and I've not had the problem since. Good luck!!
Reply:it's a sign that you are pregnant! it can happen right away, it did for me! itchy itchy! I had to get some itchy cream because even all the lotion in the world didn't seem to help me!!
Reply:At 14 weeks the baby is about the size of your thumb. The support system (placenta, etc) account for another couple of pounds. If your stomach is "popping out" it is because you are popping too much in your mouth. Itching skin is probably trying to tell you about a vitamin/mineral deficiency. Pay attention! Joel Wallach says about 98% of birth defects could be prevented with proper nutrition. Get yours!
Reply:It can be skin stretching or simply dry skin.
My back itches like you wouldn't believe whenever I'm pregnant.
Buy a really good moisturizer and use it liberally all over. Drink plenty of water because dehydration will dry out your skin as well. Take showers and not baths...and don't use soap...use something like Dove or Olay body wash in order to keep from drying out. (oh yeah...and unless you're really nasty...shower every other day...water dries out skin)
Reply:yup, your skin is starting to stretch. make sure you are keeping your skin moisturized in order to fend off stretch marks. oh and later in the pregnancy you may find that patches of skin on your tummy goes numb, that is the fact that nerve endings in your skin is being stretched too. Good luck!
Reply:It can simply be the stretching of your skin, however it could also indicate a condition during pregnancy called PUPPS. I've provided a link for you below to read about the condition. It's something you may want to discuss you obgyn at your next appointment. If you do develop the wheals before your next appointment, I would suggest calling and scheduling an appointment earlier.
Reply:I would go see your doctor or midwife straight away and get them to do a blood test it sounds like you may have obstetric coleostasis. It's basically a problem with the liver because of the extra hormones. With my first preg I had itching on my belly and it was quite bad but my doc put it down to general pregnancy itching. Then with my 2nd I started getting very severe itching all over my belly, legs, back and feet. Again my doc put it down to preg itching coz of skin stretching but my midwife did a blood test and it turned out I had coleostasis. They put me on antihistamines until I was 28 weeks and then they induced me. The good thing is after giving birth the itching stops! As you will probably be told if you do have it is if you have any more babies the itching does get worse with each preg.
Good luck!!!
